In nine places 12-year-old children were examined, in one all childrenattending elementary school (Chlum nr. Třeboň - small number of 12-year-old children). Inaddition to assessment of the urinary fluoride concentration in the children the DMF and DDE index [8, 10] was recorded....

Problems of the Telescopic and Conus System in Removable Dentures

J. Vacek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(1): 4-11

Anchoring of removable dentures by the telescopic and conus system is a matter of routine in some neighbouring countries but in our country this system is practically unknown and is not used. The author describes briefly the theoretical principles of construction of conus and telescopic crowns, evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of this anchoring system and outlines indications and contraindications. He demonstrates one clinical solution in a patient with a different biological factor of abutment teeth.

Radicals, Vitamin C and Periodontopathies

J. Podhradský

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(1): 19-22

Oxygen radicals play an important part in the etiopathogenesis of inflammatory diseases of the periodontal tissue. For the health of the periodontium therefore a normal level and function of the physiological antioxidant system controlling radical formation is essential. Part of the antioxidant system is also vitamin C which participates in the detoxication of radicals and thus contributes also to the minimalization of tissue destruction, initiated by increased radical formation associated with the development of periodontopathies. In case of deficiency of the antioxidant system irreversible changes develop on the periodontium, these changes being...

Retention of Composite Resin after Erbium:YAG Laser Ablation in Comparision with Classical Drilling Machine and Acid Etching

L. Doležalová, T. Dostálová, H. Jelínková, O. Krejsa, J. Kubelka, S. Procházka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(1): 23-29

This study compares the effects of Er:YAG laser radiation and classical preparation with acid treatment of hard dental tissues. The study was divided into two parts. At first oval cavities on the buccal surface were prepared in twenty human teeth. The edges of cavities were irradiated with Er:YAG laser. The energy of the laser was 105 mJ and repetition rate 1Hz. Ten control samples were etched with 35% phosphoric acid. The cavities were filled with composite resin according to the manufacturer's directions. The quality of connection between composite resin and margin of the cavity was similar. The aim of the second study was to evaluate the shear bond...

Thermafil - Effect of Resin and Hydroxide Sealers on Quality of Root Filling

Z. Halačková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(1): 30-36

The root canal were obtured by the thermafil method with gutta-percha points containing a central plastic carrier. AH Plus, Therma Seal and Apexit were used as sealers. The filled root canals were cut transversally, and the quality of the obturation was investigated in the apical, middle and coronal thirds respectively. Three teeth of all groups were cut longitudinally. All samples were routinely prepared for SEM investigation. Results of the study in SEM proved obturation of the root canals...
