The Role of External and Internal Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis and the Importance of Conservative Treatment

J. Bártová, J. Procházková, Z. Opatrná, O. Krejsa, J. Dušková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 107-111

The ability of bacteria of dental plaque to activate metalloproteinases may beone of the key mechanisms of damage of the periodontal tissue. In a group of patients with early onset periodontitis the authors investigated in the sulcular fluid, using the ELISAmethod, levels of the tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and the effect of conservative and antibiotic treatment. Reduction of the tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in sulcular fluid was influenced most by conservative treatment, three months after antibiotic treatment a lowerlevel was recorded still in six of eight samples. The authors found that in treatment of periodontitis the most important...

Selected Findings on Lichen Ruber Planus

M. Bereš, E. Ďurovič, A. Hugecová, P. Hugec

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 112-118

The authors discuss findings pertaining to lichen ruber planus on oral mucosae. They present the hitherto used classification and tendencies of its simplification. They discuss also causes focused on drugs as inducing agents. Attention is drawn to immunological findings. Finally the authors describe the clinical picture of different forms.

Application of the Odontosurge/2 Apparatus

B. Vlk, L. Roubalíková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 119-123

The authors describe three cases of exstirpation of benign lesions in the oralcavity by means of an Odontosurge/2 apparatus made by the Danish firm GOOF. In all instanceswork with the instrument was comfortable for the attending physician and very acceptable for the patients. Healing was without complications.

Reconstruction of Post-traumatic Defects of the Alveolar Processes of the Jaw by Bone Grafts and Dental Implants

L. Štětka, M. Machálka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 123-126

The authors present an account on surgical treatment of posttraumatic defects of alveolar processes of the jaw. They treat the defects by free autogenic bone inlay grafts and intraooseal dental implants of Straumann Co. The bone grafts are fixed in a prepared bed by means of titanium miniscrews. The modified alveolar process with the inserted implants makesit possible to prepare a functionally and aesthetically feasible fixed prosthesis.

Influence of Time on Mercury Release from Amalgams in Model Corrosion Conditions

L. Joska, M. Marek, P. Novák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 127-133

The authors investigated the rate of mercury release into a model solution of saliva from a group of six high-copper and one classical amalgam. The time for assessment was 10 days to 36 months after preparation of the samples. In the majority of materials up to 18months a significant decline was recorded, the lowest rate of mercury release was permanentlyfound for Tytin. Classical amalgam did not differ as to its results from the behaviour of the whole group of investigated materials. The authors document the correlation between mercuryrelease and its content in the filling.

Iatrogenic Load of Mother's Organism by Mercury Related to Dental Treatment I. Mercury Concentrations in Breast Milk

Z. Broukal, J. Dušková, V. Korunová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 134-141

During 1993 - 1997 altogether 50 women after delivery participated in this study. In the period 3 - 7 days post partum all individuals were dentally examined and interviewed for possible occupational and food mercury exposure, dental arches casted and samples of blood, urine, colostrum and later milk taken. Plaster models of dentition were prepared, amalgam fillings coloured and scanned for computer aided surface measurements. Samples of body fluids were analysed for mercury by means of cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Mercury levels in colostrum and breast milk correlated significantly positively with the surface area of amalgam fillings...

Possible Antimicrobial Prophylaxis of Dental Caries by Preparations of the Chlorhexidine Type

J. Dušková, Z. Broukal

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 142-145

A review of the literature on contemporary antimicrobial opportunities of dental caries prevention, in particular in diciduous teeth, and possibilities of following up the effectiveness of this prophylactic provision.

Physical and Biological Evaluation of Hydroxylapatite Films Formed on Ti6Al4V Substrates by Excimer Laser Ablation

L. Himmlová, T. Dostálová, M. Jelínek, V. Pešáková, M. Adam

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 146-157

Thin films of hydroxylapatite, about 500 nm, were formed on titanium alloy samples by excimer laser ablation Ten different deposition conditions were used such asdeposition atmosphere (vacuum, pure water vapours, mixture of Ar and water vapours), substrate temperature, target-substrate distance and energy density. Mechanical and physicalanalyses were carried out by Rutherford backscattering, Particle Induced X-Ray Emission, crystallinity of films by x-ray diffraction, surface morphology by Scanning Electron Microscopy and adhesion by a scratch test. Biological evaluation of samples was also performed. The fibroblast proliferation test, morphological...

Focal Infection of Dental Origin

V. Ščigel, J. Dušková, Z. Broukal

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 158-165

The authors present the current perspective on various aspects of focal infection of dental origin. They describe the potential of detecting it and offer practice advice for the protocol of examination. They propose an individualised approach when deciding on treatment.

Diagnosis and Therapy of Zygomaticomaxillary Fractures - History and Present State

V. Moťka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(4): 166-170

Selected data from the literature provide a brief account on therapeutic possibilities of dislocated fractures of the zygomaticomaxillary complex. Important therapeutic methods, reposition and fixation of fragments are described as presented by different authors who introduced them into practice.
