Fractures of Articular Processes of the Mandible in Adults-Etiology and Associated Injuries

P. Křížek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(5): 165-170

The incidence of fractures of articular processes of the mandible is rising in recent years. According to the literature the articular process is injured in 25-30% of all mandibular fractures. In our group it was in 19.6 %. The paper discusses the causes of fractures of articular processes of the mandible, their analysis in adult patients treated between Jan. 1 1996 and Dec.31 2000 at the Second Stomatological Clinic of the First Medical Faculty Charles University and General Faculty Hospital. The paper describes also associated injuries found in the investigated group.

The monitoring of oral health of schoolchildren aged 12-14 years during the threeyears intervention aimed at increasing the iodine and fluoride intake was accompanied bya questionnaire inquiry to oral health behavior, attitudes to oral care and fluoride intake. Results showed that the intervention increased the frequency of dental examinations and the percentage of preventive services during dental visits. The oral health knowledge increased, especially due to the increased role of oral health education in schools. The most of childrenused fluoridated toothpastes and the percentage of children using fluoridated mouth was hesrose. In the onset of intervention...

In as many as 70 % of patients the mentioned complains are caused by intracapsular derangement's of the components of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) - disc displacement. Disc displacement are devided into: disc displacement with reduction and disc displacement without reduction. This paper is the review, where are described the clinical criteria for diagnostic of disc displacement are possible way of their treatment.

Corrosion Processes Leading to the Development of Metallic Pigmentation of the Gingiva

L. Joska, Z. Venclíková, J. Bystrianský, P. Novák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(5): 197-203

Alloys based on gold, platinum, silver and formerly also palladium are along with dental amalgam materials frequently used by stomatologists. During exposure these materials come into contact with medium of the oral cavity (saliva, sulcular fluid) and the exposure of metals in an aqueous medium leads to their corrosion. From the value of the electrochemical potential of the metalic material in the oral medium, or to put it more accurately the free corrosion potential, it is possible to assess to what extent conditions for its corrosion were created. Corrosion losses of dental alloys in the great majority are not a fundamental problem of these metallic...

The investigation summarizes changes in the compsition of the microbial spectrum in the periodontal region focused on so-called periodontal pathogens, i.e. fusobacteria, veilonellae, pigment-forming bacteroids and actinobacilli assembled in a longitudinal study inadult patients with type 1 diabetes. From the results ensues that the microbial spectrum indeep periodontal pockets did not change significantly in the course of the trial, while in shallow periodontal pockets there was a gradual reduction of periodontal pathogens. Dental therapeutic and preventive intervention did not influence the prevalence of microbiological markers of diabetes (candidae,...
