Oral Hygiene of the Dental Implant Area

L. Steklý

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(1): 3-8

Treatment by means of dental implants is an effective way how to treat dentaldefects. Based on histological examinations we cannot speak of the gingiva surrounding the implant but of the periimplantation mucosa. The term periimplantation disease comprisesinflammatory reactions in the area surrounding the implants. If only the soft tissues are affected reversibly, the term periimplantation mucositis is used. If it is associated with loss of the surrounding supporting bone of the functionally burdened implant, perimplantitis is involved. According to one theory of the genesis of perimplantitis dental plaque is the etiological factor. Regular check up...

Changes in the Shape of the Dental Arch after Orthodontic Treatment - Longitudinal Study

E. Tauferová, T. Dostálová, J. Racek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(1): 9-15

The objective of the work was to evaluate changes in the shape of the dental arch after treatment with fixed and removable devices without extraction. Statistical analysis of the dimensions and shape of the dental arch was implemented before the onset and after termination of orthodontic treatment and during a check-up examination after an interval of 3-5 years. The plaster models of dental arches obtained by means of a scanner on the computer screen were processed by digitalization within the framework of thr Kefalo programme. Segmental analysis was made, dental discrepancy in the dental arch values of Bolton's index were assessed and an ideal occlusion...

Fractures of the Articular Process of the Mandible in Adults

P. Křížek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(1): 22-30

The presented paper deals with the problem of fractures of the articular process of the mandible, the main attention being devoted to the standard and speed of remodelling processes of the articular ball and socket. The author emphasizes that it is an injury where the mechanism is in the great majority indirect. The fracture develops as a result of the collision of the chin with a hard surface and the evoked kinetic energy is transferred from the chin to the articular process which becomes broken if the deformity caused by force exceeds its elasticity after the impact of the ball on the lateral enforced margin of the socket. In many instances this...

Dental Sealants

A. Šváchová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(1): 31-37

This review article summarises information about materials used as dental sealants. In the first part of this article the evolution of these materials is provided and the characteristics of contemporary sealant materials are compared. The currently used sealants are divided into several groups of indication, based on the patient's individual situation and on the properties of each material. The indication groups are formed on the basis of the patient's dental care level, the morphology of the tooth and its surfaces, the risk of caries and the patient'sgeneral health state. The arguments for and against the dental pits and fissures sealing are evaluated...
