The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of various laser techniques for bleaching teeth in office vital whitening. Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide were usedto receive chemical action of bleaching process. Extracted upper central incisors were exposed to laser radiation. Four different laser systems were applied to accelerate the speed of process. Nikon Labophot (Japan) microscope was used for color change determination. Scanning electronmicroscope Jeol (Japan) checked the quality of surface structure. The Nd:YAG laser SHG; CTE:YAG laser had no bleaching effect. Nd:YAG laser, waveguide 1,06 µm radiation destroyed the surface...

Prevalence of Temporomandibular Disorders - Review
R. Jirman
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(3): 85-94
Since 1970 interest in TMD has steadily increased. The definition of TMD has caused much confusion within the profession. Various terms reflecting the assumed aetiology have been generated in the past and are still used today. Prevalence data and conclusions about etiology were deduced from clinical samples, until Helkimo started an epidemiological survey in 1969. The prevalence data of TMD show a great range, possibly due to the varied nomenclature of the disorder, the often fluctuating signs and symptoms and the population studied. For the Czech population the prevalence was made in 1989, n = 10,000. The main etiological theories are described, and...

L. Himmlová, V. Dorazilová, T. Dostálová, M. Jelínek
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(3): 95-101
The purpose of this experimental study was to observe the response of surrounding tissues to long-term presence of coated titanium implants under loading. The protective layer based on hydroxylapatite was created by the method of pulsed laser deposition with KrF excimer laser on the kernel from titanium alloy. The coating thickness was about 1 mm. Implants were inserted into the mandible of minipigs up extracted premolars. Up 14 weeks of healing without loading the metal-ceramic crowns were cemented and implants were moved into the occlusion. Six months after the crown application the experimental animals were sacrificed and from the bone blocks with...

L. Roubalíková
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(3): 99-107
The author deals with system Vector use in a periodontitis therapy. The author characterizes Vector to be a system utilizing ultrasound energy in a very careful and effectiveway. Up to 70 patients aged from 40 to 60 years, who suffered from periodontitis that had not been treated so far, without serious systemic diseases in personal history and with a comparable oral hygiene level, were engaged in the clinical study. The patients were randomly divided intotwo groups of 35 persons each. The first group was treated with a Vector System, the second with hand instruments (special curettes). A tooth with the worst periodontal status from eachsextant was...

Differentiated Approach to the Extraction Wound Managementin Risk Patients Compared to Healthy Patients
M. Šafářová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(3): 107-111
The author presents the results of the clinical study focussed on a difference of the extraction socket healing between the group of health patients and the group of health-compromised patients. During last two years 184 teeth in 109 patients were extracted. The author traced the frequency of healing complications in both groups of patients according to the local wound dressing. The results of the study show that the number of complications in both groups were almost the same and that there is no reason to be anxious about health-compromised patients, if sufficient cautiousness and lege artis procedures are observed.
Clinical Effect of Low Level Laser Therapy in Treatment of Alveolitis Sicca
J. Zemen
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2003; 103(3): 111-115
Aim of the study: to compare effectiveness of a standard conservative treatment of alveolitis sicca - a painful complication of an extraction wound healing to the treatment thereof with bio-stimulating laser. Methods: In our study, the patients with alveolitis sicca were offered to choose betweena standard conservative treatment and a bio-stimulating laser treatment. The patients in the first group (49 persons), who were diagnosed with alveolitis sicca in ourdental office, were treated by a standard conservative treatment - daily exchange of a drain with antiseptic and benzocain. If due to pain the drain had to be exchanged more often than every 24...
