Characteristics of Surface Layer of Chromium Cobalt Alloy Coated with Titanium Nitride and Zirconium Nitride

P. Prachár, J. Vaněk, L. Cvrček, S. Bartáková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 65-67

Technically pure titanium or its alloys are broadly used in recent oral implantology. The material has optimal biological characteristics but its technological processing is difficult. The aim of our research was to improve the technological processing of a cromium cobalt alloy and to maintain the biological characteristics of the material. We focused on a cromium cobalt alloy coated with biomaterials titanium nitride and zirconium nitride. Our study brings a report from the evaluation of mechanical and physical characteristics of the coated surface of the cromium cobalt alloy. The obtained results are promising for oral implantology. The study is...

The Accuracy of Electronic Working Length Determination by Apex Locator Ray-Pex 4

P. Závodský, P. Bednář, D. Černý, S. Ságlová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 68-72

Precise working length determination is one of the prerequisites for successful endodontic treatment. At present there is an improved way of verifying working length. The fourth generation of electronic apexlocators has already been developed to specify this so important action of endodontic treatment. In our study we tried to verify accuracy of working length determination with the Ray-Pex 4, the fourth generation group device. Evaluation of the quality of the electronic measurement approach was based on the distance from file tip to anatomical apical foramen. Measurement was accomplished on a digital image of sectioned apical region with instrument...

Comparison of Preoperative Effect of Laser Radiation with Ultrasound Micropreparation and Classical Drilling Machine

T. Dostálová, H. Jelínková, M. Němec, P. Koranda, M. Miyagi, Y. Shi, Y. Matsuura

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 73-76

The aim of this study is to evaluate the interation effect of Q-switched, and free running Er:YAG laser radiations, sonic, and classical drilling machine preparation on the hard dental tissues.

Evaluation of Root Fractures of the Permanent Teeth

H. Hecová, J. Stehlíková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 77-81

Root fractures of the permanent teeth belong to the most severe dental injuries. They usually result from a horizontal impact and the most common afflicted teeth are upper frontal teeth, less common the lower teeth. All tissues of the tooth are afflicted, in same cases an alveolar bone too. The authors evaluate a group of patients with root fracture who were treated at the Dentistry Department of the Faculty Hospital in Pilsen in the years 1995-2002.

Accessory Root Canals and the Smear Layer Presence

Z. Halačková, M. Kukletová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 97-101

Results of root canal treatment may be influenced by presence of accessory root canals and apical ramifications. Root canals of 120 extracted teeth were treated by step-back technique. The canals were irrigated with 5% solution of NaOCl, physiological saline was used in the control group. The irrigation solutions were applied by an ultrasonic or syringe techniques. The shaped and cleaned root canals were split open and routinely prepared for SEM and TEM ivestigation.Apical ramifications in upper central incisors were found in 11.5%, in upper lateral incisors in 25%. The smear layer covered part of the root canal and its presence was dependent on...

Botulinum Toxin and Its Contribution to the Treatment of Masseteric Hypertrophy

R. Jurkovič, P. Macák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 102-104

With discovery and use of botulinum toxin masseteric hypertrophy has become treatable in a minimal invasive way. The authors discuss the masseteric hypertrophy as such as well as they describe a technique of clinical application of botulinum toxin in its therapy. They introduce a significant contribution of botulinum toxin to patients with masseteric hypertrophy.

Hypodontia of Upper Lateral Incisors - Late Orthodontic-Prosthetic Therapy

J. Racek, T. Dostálová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 105-108

The authors present the procedure and result of the late orthodontic-prosthetic therapy of skeletodental anomaly of the Angle II/1 class with hypodontia of upper lateral incisors. The defect caused disorders in the esthetic features of the face, especially due to variant configuration of the upper frontal part of the teeth. The orthodontic adjustment employed the method of "straight wire" combined with features of other techniques. Retention of the result was secured by prosthetic reconstruction - fixed substitutions from metal-ceramics and a solid retained with a multi-fiber wire in the frontal part of the teeth. This combined orthodontic-prosthetic...

Genetic Diversity of S. Mutans in Families and Children of Low and High Caries Risk

J. Dušková, Z. Broukal, J. Janata, G. Novotná, T. Janatová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 109-112

The paper summarizes the results of studies dealing with genetic conformity of S. mutans between children and their parents, between children and both parents or between parents. As fas as the conformity of S. mutans genotypes between children and parents are concerned, there were more frequent in the pair of mother/child than in the pair father/child, where continental differences were observed. In cases of European groups, where there was conformity of S. mutans genotype between the parent the child, it proved to concern the mother and child pair in 70% of cases. There was no conformity in the father and child pair in European studies repeatedly,...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Part III. Therapy

R. Foltán

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(4): 113-116

OSAS therapy can have the form of either conservative or surgical treatment. The conservative therapy, applied in mild OSAS, consists in reducing the patient's wieght, introducing the correct sleep hygiene and using mandibular protractors. When treating cases of severe OSAS, we can apply Continuous Positive Airway Pressure - CPAP device overnight. If the conservative therapy does not result in improved sleep ventilation or if it is badly tolerated by the patient, we can use surgical treatment. We are providing uvulo-palato-pharyngo-plasty, palatal flap, genioglossus advancement with hyoid bone suspension or hyoid myotomy and maxillomandibular advancement....
