A Contribution to the Etiology of Diseases of Temporomandibular Joint
V. Machoň, V. Lukášová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 111-114
The authors deal with the evaluation of etiological factors in the development of diseases of temporomandibular joint. The evaluated cohort consisted of 200 patients, 38 men and 162 women, the evaluated patients suffered from inflammatory degenerative diseases, intracapsular and extracapsular dysfunctions. Stress proved to be the most frequent etiological factor (in the inflammatory degenerative diseases in 52%, in intracapsular diseases in 40% and in extracapsular diseases in 27%), and the presence of vertebrogenic complaints (in the inflammatory degenerative diseases in 46%, in intracapsular diseases in 23% and in extracapsular diseases in 50%)....
Periodontal Cyst
H. Steigerová, M. Starosta
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 115-118
The case reports describes a 43-year female patient, who attended a regional dentist for a dull pain of mandible on the right, swelling of alveolus on the vestibular and lingual side and a beginning swelling of the right cheek. The dentist performed an intraoral incision, drainage and administered antibiotics. A purulent exudation lasted despite this therapy and the patient was therefore sent to a specialized ward. The following clinical and X-ray examination established the diagnosis of periodontal cyst. The antibiotic coverage was applied before extirpation of the cyst, the cavity was filled with augmenting material Poresorb, covered with the HyproSorb...
Clinical Profile of the Third Molar Predicting the Highest Risk of the Origin of Pericoronitis
V. Schwartzová, D. Beluš, M. Kyseľ
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 119-124
The study was aimed to provide a simple profile of the third molar, which represents the highest risk for the origin of pericoronitis. The authors present the results of their own clinical investigation performed in patients who attended the Ward of Oral, Jaw and Face Surgery of the First Stomatological Clinic, Medical Faculty, University of PJ Safarik and Faculty Hospital in Kosice, who suffered from problems in difficult cutting of the wisdom tooth. The third molars, totally covered with mucosa, with mesioangular inclination and in arbitrary height of eruption, represented the largest group, formed 29.9% of all impacts, but contributed to the...
Evaluation of the program HEALTHY TEETH after Four Years of Implementation at the Primary Schools in the Czech Republic
I. Lekešová, L. Mrklas
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 125-132
The aim of the educational program HEALTHY TEETH is to improve the oral health of the children and youth and consequently to create the preconditions for improvement of the oral health of the adults in the coming years. The program consists of the Manual for Teachers, where vocational texts concerning oral health are publishing and the Work Sheets for Pupils, that interactively explain to children the dental care for deciduous and permanent teeth. The program was distributed to all primary schools in the Czech Republic and covers 605 007 children. The introduced intervention program can be evaluated only after certain period of time, these have...
A Contribution to Ultrasound Preparation of Hard Dental Tiss
L. Roubalíková
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 133-137
Objective: The aim of the work was to compare the effect of the system Vector® (Dürr Dental, Germany) and classical rotation technique in the preparation of cavities. Methods: The experiment was performed on extracted teeth. A total of 20 extracted premolar teeth were randomly distributed to groups of 5 in each of them. At the masticatory surface the cavities were prepared by a standard diamond stone and subsequently with a fine diamond stone of the Vector® system (Dürr Dental, Germany) and a combination of both types of preparation. The samples were coated with metal and then examined by electron microscopy....
Biological Tests of Chromium-cobalt Alloy Coated with Zirconium Nitride and Titanium Nitride
J. Vaněk, P. Prachár, S. Bartáková, V. Březina, L. Freyburg
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 149-153
It is well established in recent clinical stomatology that the materials used routinely in oral cavity, mucosa, and bridges constructions have proper mechanical and physical characteristics. The materials are ideal from technological point of view and it is easy to work with them in clinical practice. Their processing and surface finishing is easy. The materials show high biocompatibility when used in gingival and mucosal surfaces. In a jaw, the contact of implant materials with bone tissue and required osseointegration represent more complex and demanding issue than in soft tissues. In bone tissue, there is a necessity to use the materials exhibiting...
Modification of Dentine Surface Using a Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser
Z. Zapletalová, J. Peřina jr., H. Chmelíčková, R. Novotný, M. Stranyánek
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 159-164
Dentine hypersensitivity is a common complaint of adult patients in dental office. It is a source of uncomfortable feelings or pain and from 10 to 15 percent of population suffers from it. Sealing of dentinal tubules opened to the outside is one of the methods of treatment of dentine hypersensitivity. When dentine is irradiated by a radiation of Nd:YAG laser, the dentine surface can be melted. After cooling, the melted surface forms a glazed and non-porous surface that can partly or fully obturate orifices of dentinal tubules. Dentine samples prepared from extracted human third molars were irradiated by the light from Nd:YAG laser system LASAG KLS...
Changing Oral Health Status in Seniors in the Czech Republic between 1987 and 2003
Z. Broukal, O. Krejsa, E. Lenčová, L. Mrklas
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 165-169
When comparing the results of two nation-wide surveys of oral health concerning age categories of 65-74 and 75 and more years respectively it was shown that oral health of seniors significantly improved in virtually all parameters of dental and periodontal status and treatment outcomes. The principal goals relevant to oral health of seniors in the program "Health for all by 2000" have been to decrease edentulousness by one third and to drop the prevalence of advanced periodontal disease under 10 %. The decrease of edentulousness achieved between 1987 and 2003 was from 28.2 % to 21.0 % which means 25.5 % reduction. In the same interval the prevalence...
Application of Restriction Analysis of the Gene for 16S rRNA for Verification of Species Identity in Important Oral Microorganisms I. Viridans Streptococci
G. Novotná, J. Janata, J. Dušková, T. Janatová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(6): 170-174
The authors proposed an algorithm for the analysis of genetic material of oral streptococci, giving significantly more precision to generic identification of bacteria associated with destruction of hard dental tissues. The method based on analysis of parts of the gene for 16S rRNA was verified in laboratory for generic identification of 87 isolates of oral streptococci and correctness of the results was confirmed by the "absolute" method, i.e. by DNA sequencing of the analyzed segment. The proposed procedure can be used in general and the analysis can be extended to other clinically important microorganisms of oral cavity, e.g. bacteria of mucosa associated...
