Our Present Experience with Treatment of Children and Adolescents in Conscious Sedation Using N₂O/O₂
L. Navarová, J. Handzel
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2008; 108(3): 35-37
From November 2004 to October 2007 we realized 131 dental treatments in conscious sedation by nitrous oxide/oxygen in a group of 57 boys and 37 girls aged 4-17 years. There were 79 treatments in boys and 52 in girls, 28 children underwent the sedation repeatedly. The indications were mainly the dental fear, in a smaller part of the group the psychological immaturity for the planned procedure. The treatment consisted mostly in teeth extractions, restorative procedures, and mucogingival surgery. This form of conscious sedation represents an appropriate choice of treatment of anxious children in school age and in adolescence.
Traumatic Dental Injuries in the Primary Dentition
H. Jaklová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2008; 108(3): 38-40

The most widespread is the classification of traumatic dental injuries proposed by Andreasen and Andreasen, which is based on a system adopted by the World Health Organization. The main objective of diagnosis and treatment of traumatic injuries affecting primary dentition is the prevention of possible damage to the developing tooth germ.

Successful functional and esthetic rehabilitation and quality of life of maxillo-facial patients is based on effective interdisciplinary cooperation especially of surgeons, dentists and technicians. Mutilated defects occur during the first phase of the oncological surgery and immediately after injuries. Subsequent plastic surgery is the initial step of functional reconstruction and creates the base for future construction of the implant-born epithesis and post-operative dentures. Several case reports demonstrate complex rehabilitation of typical maxillofacial defects solved within the interdisciplinary cooperation.
Increasing the Effect of Photodynamic Therapy on Basocellular Carcinoma by Synchronic Application of Pulsed Dye Laser
M. Vlk, R. Šmucler
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2008; 108(3): 67-71
For being the most frequent malignity, basocellular carcinoma represents a significant medical, psychological and economic problem, despite its very rare destructive growth and metastases. In particular, success of present therapy of relapsing basaliomas is very low (and decreases to 50%) and it is therefore necessary to search for new methods for increased efficiency with simultaneous esthetic results of treatment (85% of basaliomas are in the head and neck region). Photodynamic therapy is based on activation of a photosensitization agent belongs to most successful possibilities, but fails in up to 4% of primary superficial basaliomas; in nodular...
