Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2009; 109(2): 22-24

The objective of the work was to evaluate the reliability of ultrasound examination of regional cervical nodes in treatment of patients with spinocellular carcinoma of the oral cavity. One hundred and twenty-two patients with oral cavity spinocellular carcinoma were treated in 2000-2004. Seventy-one patients underwent a surgical treatment of the neck. Fifty-eight (81,7%) patients had positive ultrasound finding in terms of suspect metastases; in 32 patients metastases were proved by histological examination. Sensitivity of ultrasound examination by 84%, specificity by 21% and positive predicting value by 55% were registered in the evaluated file.The...

The Growth of Caries in Primary Teeth and Some Correlations in a Longitudinal Study

Z. Broukal, R. Ivančaková, E. Lenčová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2009; 109(2): 25-29

Caries experience dental status, oral hygiene and salivary levels of cariogenic streptococci were examined in the three years prospective study among older preschool children in relation to the dynamics of caries increment and with regard to the educational level of their mothers. Mean caries increment between the second and third year of study did not differ significantly amounting to 0.3 new decayed teeth per year however it was highest among children caries free in the onset of study. Higher caries experience significantly positively correlated with the presence of dental plaque and in the final of study also with the salivary levels of cariogenic...

Effect of Peroxide Bleaching Systems on the Marginal Integrity and Surface Hardness of Composite Restorations

A. Roubíčková, P. Bradna, M. Dudek, D. Houšová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2009; 109(2): 30-38

Peroxide bleaching systems may affect resin composite restorations through their strong oxidative effect. The objective was to investigate the influence of bleaching systems on long-term stability of marginal integrity of composite restorations and composite surface resistance. Class V cavities were prepared at the enamel-dentine junction and filled using a total-etch adhesive system Gluma Comfort Bond (n=36) and self-etching adhesive iBond (n=36) in combination with the microhybrid resin composite material Charisma. The peroxide bleaching gel Opalescence PF 20% (20 wt. % carbamide peroxide) was applied 25 times on the restorations. The control groups...
