Prosthetic Therapy in Patients with Cleft Palate (A Historical Survey)

The prosthetic therapy of patients with cleft anomalies is a part of complex multidisciplinary therapy, where pediatrician, geneticist, phoniatrist, surgeon and stomatologist, orthodontist and prosthetic specialist participate. This historical survey evaluates the share of stomatological prosthetic care in the therapy of these patients, which has changed significantly over time in connection with the development of other medical branches and inrelation to the progress in stomatological prosthetics itself. Beginning with the antique period the author pays attention to the most significant personalities, who principally influenced the development in the therapy of cleft patients as well asnew discoveries and subsequent changes in technological area in the production of prosthetic substitutes.
