This review article deals with the endodontic therapy problem of primary teeth, formocresol pulpotomy, legitimacy of use of formocresol in pediatric dentistry, concerns about formocresol and alternatives to the formocresol pulpotomy.
The decades of research have identified old-fashioned formaldehyde products like formocresol as problematic because of its toxicity, carcinogenicity, and genotoxicity. There are several viable and superior noninvasive clinical procedures. The end of the article deals with the reasons to abandon formocresol in pediatric dentistry.

Keywords: formocresol; formocresol pulpotomy; efficacy of formocresol pulpotomy; concerns about formocresol; alternatives to the formocresol pulpotomy
