Tensile Bond Strenght between Dentin and Compomeres Dyract and Compoglass

M. Starosta

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 167-170

The paper is focused on investigations of adhesive filling materials Dyract and Compoglass and their binding systems Dyract PSA and Compoglass SCA in vitro. The authorsassessed the tensile bond strenght between dentin and the above mentioned compomeresAccording to results in both materials the smear layer is modified because the binding force exceeds 6 MPa.

Factors Influencing the Occurrence of Lower Lip Carcinoma

J. Novák, K. Kaňovská

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 171-176

The spinocellular carcinoma has been established as the most frequent malignant neoplasm of the lower lip. 142 patients were treated and followed at the II nd Department of Stomatology in Brno from 1984 to 1993 years. The maximum occurrence of this type of neoplasm was recorded in the patients of age over 70. Men were affected 3,5 times morefrequently than women. Cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption did not increased the risk of neoplasm occurrence. Pipe smoking or smoking of the cigars was not recorded in any patient. In the conclusion, these factors probably do not contribute significantly to manifestation of the disease.

The authors discuss new trends of local treatment of periodontitis. The paper isfocused on the administration of antimicrobial preparations, the time of action of sublingualpreparations, effective concentration. The authors describe the most recent clinical studies which were implemented world-wide.

Treatment of Caries Complications in Deciduous and Permanent Dentition

K. Plšek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 188-190

The cariosity of children's teeth is relatively high, incl. complications of caries. Early loss of deciduous teeth is associated with some complications such as overcrowding, deep occlusion etc. The most effective prevention and prophylaxis is early and high standard care of deciduous teeth. The authors discuss some possible ways how to treat caries and its complications in collaboration of the dental general practitioner, paedostomatologist and orthodontist.

Osseointegration of KrF Laser Eydroxylapatite Films on Ti6Al4V Alloy by Mini-pigs. Loaded Osseointegration

L. Himmlová, T. Dostálová, M. Jelínek, Ch. Grivas

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 224-229

Aim of study was to evaluate osseointegration of the KrF laser hydroxylapatite coated titanium alloy Ti6A14V dental implants. For deposition KrF excimer laser in stainless-steel deposition chamber was used. Thickness of HA films were round 1 mm. Mini-pigs were used in this investigation. Implants were placed vertically into the lower jaw. After 14 weeks unloaded osseointegration the metal ceramic crowns were inserted. The experimental animals were sacrificed (a half of year post insertion). The vertical position of implants was controlled with a radiograph. Microscopic sections were cut and ground. Sections were viewed using microscope with CCD camera....

Metal Pigmentation of the Human Gingiva

Z. Venclíková, O. Benada

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 230-234

Gingival biopsies obtained from six patients with bluish-grey pigmentations developed after application of metal prosthetic restorations were analysed by transmission electron microscopy and EDX microanalysis. In the lamina propria gingivae dense particles were localized intracellularly in fibroblasts, macrophages and endothelial cells. Extracellular appearance of these particles among collagen fibres was seen in the matrix. In such particlessilver and sulphur eventually selenium were found most frequently. The silver content in the tissue was found in the correlation with its content in the prosthetic metal alloys. The occurrence of the macrophages...

Iatrogenic Load of Mother's Organism by Mercury Related to Dental Treatment. III. Mercury concentrations in breast milk and urine in lactating mothers dentally treated during pregnancy

Z. Broukal, J. Dušková, J. Dolanský

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 235-239

A group of women after delivery and lactating mothers was examined in the years 1993-1997 which were dentally treated during pregnancy or early motherhood. Allindividuals were dentally examined, interviewed for occupational and food load of mercury and samples of urine and breast milk were analysed for mercury levels. Filling of teeth whennecessary were provided by composite and glassionomer filling materials. In 24 patients there was necessary to grind out old and damaged amalgam fillings while in other n 8 patients onlyprimarily decayed teeth had to be treated. In a group of lactating mothers with the dentalanamnesis in pregnancy with manipulations...

Piercing of the Tongue and Possible Complications

R. Jurkovič, I. Satko, J. Kubisová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 240-244

The authors discuss the problem of piercing with special attention to the tongue. They describe the history and historical importance jewels inserted into different parts of the body. They present their own experience with a rare complication of piercing of the tongue (partial incorporation into the tongue) not described so far in the available literature. They discuss some, even life threatening complications which occur in conjunction with these cases.

On the Ethiology and History of Wedge-shaped Defects

P. Trefný

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1999; 99(6): 245-252

The contribution contains an overview of former and current theories concerning the ethiology of wedge-shaped defects. Hypothesis attempting to explain these defects as a result of traumatic occlusion is critised. Based on comprehensive study of documents and archaeological material concerning oral hygiene history, it can be concluded that the appearance of dental hard tissues lesions has always been closely linked with the development of oral hygiene implements and cleaning methods. It seems to be evident that a new type of defect with wedge-shaped profile began to occur, since the toothbrush had been invented and has replaced the implements formerly used.
