The paper presents a survey of the modes of intraoral and extraoral radiographicexamination in children stomatology. Main indication of X-ray examination in children, types and dimension of the commonly used X-ray films, techniques of elaboration and the modes of interpretation of X-ray pictures are described. The importance of the bitewing technique for the detection of caries is pointed out and suitable time intervals for repetition of the bitewingpictures in temporary and permanent dentition are presented. The authors discuss the feasibility of systematic X-ray examination for other reasons than caries and describe the possibilities of protecting...
The Importance of Endodontic Treatment Relatedto the Reimplantation of Permanent Teeth
H. Hecová, J. Stehlíková
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 137-144
Teeth avulsion is considered to be one of the most serious dental injuries. Earlyreimplantation of the affected tooth and subsequent endodontic treatment are considered to be the most important procedures aiming at avoiding possible inflammatory root resorption. The authors demonstrate the importance of endodontic treatment and Calcium Hydroxide asa temporary root filling. This is documented on a serious of radiographs.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 145-149
The evaluation of OPG pictures in patients with risk factors influencing the origin of cerebrovascular event should not only be directed to stomatological examination, but also to the presence of calcified atherosclerotic plaques in the area of arteria carotis communis bifurcation. The stomatologist may be the first physician to reveal this serious risk and sends the patient to the aimed specialized examination. We have evaluated at our workplace a total of 738 OPG pictures in 469 women and 269 menin the age range of 45-90 years. Ninety seven pictures were not evaluable. Suspect findings were detected in 21 women (3.2 %) and three men (0.3%). All these...
Early Childhood Caries and the Possibilities of Prevention
M. Kukletová, J. Kuklová, M. Svobodová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 151-156
The aim of the study was to identify, in children suffering from ECC, common ethiological factors which might be eliminated by effective preventive measures. The authorsexamined 117 children at the age of 15 months to 4 years suffering from ECC and calculated the dmft. CRT bacteria test was used in 30 children to determine the number of microbes - strains of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus in saliva and the findings were statistically evaluated by Fischer's exact test. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to evaluate the appearance of the tooth surface in 20 extracted primary 1 teeth. The dmft index ranged from 2-20, high number of microbes...

J. Pazdera, V. Zbořil, M. Geierová, Z. Kolář, J. Novotný, P. Tvrdý
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 171-179
The authors present their experience in the treatment of 20 patients (10 women and 10 men), treated for odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) of the jaw bones. In the group of 71patients treated for odontogenic cysts, OKC represented 18%. A multicentric occurrence of OKC was recorded in five patients (25%), a tendency to postoperation relapses was observed in eightpatients (40%). Loer jaw was site of a predilection of OKC (75%). Six female patients met the criteria for clinical manifestation of the Gorling syndrome (NBCCS). A malignant transformation into odontogenic carcinoma occurred in connection with postoperation relapse of OKC inone patient. In connection...

Z. Zapletalová, R. Kubínek, M. Vůjtek
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 180-185
Microscopy of atomic forces - AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) belongs to techniques of microscopy scanning by a probe, which are used for imaging structure of surfaces. It is based of mapping the distribution of atomic forces on the surface of the sample underinvestigation. AFM provides a true to topographic three-dimensional picture of the surface with up to atomic discrimination. In addition to physics and chemistry of the surfaces the methodis also applicable in biological disciplines. A special adjustment of the AFM scanner makes it possible to follow biological samples in liquid media. It makes it possible to exclude various artifacts caused by...

Evaluation of the Effect of Propriosensitive Re-education Exercise in the Therapy of Temporomandibular Disorders
D. Hanáková, B. Jureček, P. Konečný
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 193-200
Rehabilitation exercise is considered as a supplementary method within the framework of the complex therapy of temporomandibular disorders. However, Its importance is probable much higher. Its especially contributes to mobilization of the joint, and evokesoptimal function of masticatory muscles and correct locomotion stereotypes. The authorsevaluated the efficiency of simple rehabilitation exercise in most frequent temporomandibular disorders - the disorders of disc-condyle complex and hypermobility of the joint in comparison with standard methods. The results of the study make it clear that from the standpoint of subjective evaluation of the patient...
Our Experience in Immediate Load upon Implants in Toothless Patients
Z. Nathanský, T. Dostálová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 201-205
The study was aimed at detection of the possibilities of immediately loading the implants in toothless patients. The patients with unsuitable anatomical conditions in lower jaw were treated with two implants in the positions 33, 43. In these patients the authors did notwait the usual three months until the second phase of implantation. Spherical supra-constructions were introduced immediately after introduction of the implants and the surgical intervention was finished by a stitch. Immediately afterwards, matrixes of fast-polymerization resins were fixed into the existing prosthesis. Having removed the stitches the prostheses were directly supported...
Molecular Theory of Tooth Eruption
P. Krejčí
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(5): 206-210
Tooth eruption is a process encompassing axial movement of the tooth from the position of its development inside the jaw into its functional position in the occlusion place, where cells of the tooth organ participate with the adjacent alveolar bone. Selective remodeling of alveolar bone controlled by the tooth follicle, surrounding the un-erupted tooth plays a decisive role. Chronologic expression of a series of genes in dental follicle is necessary for the tooth eruption. Regulation activities of the enamel organ of tooth after the formation of the tooth crown ins formed represent the necessary important signal for starting the process.
