Adhesive Systems in Morphological Picture. I. Tetric Ceram HB
M. Kukletová, J. Kuklová, D. Horký, Z. Halačková
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 37-41
The authors studied the character of adhesive connection in the composite material Excite-Tetric Flow-Tetric Ceram HB using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the obturation of dentinal tubules, formation of the hybrid layer, adhesion of the material to the enamel and the character of connection of all materials used. The study demonstrated that the dentinal adhesives Excite obturated the dentinal tubules well, so that the leakage of fluids from dentinal tubules and dentine hypersensitivity can be prevented. Quality of adhesion to dental hard tissues was very good, boundaries between individual materials...
Verification of Validity of Caries Measuring by Laser Fluorescent Apparatus KaVo DIAGNOdent
S. Ságlová, D. Černý, P. Bednář, P. Závodský
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 42-48
The authors decide to evaluate the results of measuring by laser fluorescence apparatus DIAGNOdent (KaVo) in the in vitro experiment. 100 occlusal surfaces of extracted lower and upper third molars, which communicated with oral cavity before extractions, were examined with using laser fluorescence apparatus and were marked for the place of the highest reading. The teeth were cut longways in the place of the highest reading. Caries detector by Fussayama was applied on the cut surfaces. They made digital photos with using a tripod of all teeth cut surfaces and measured coloured caries depths with using computer program Adobe Photoshop. Statistical examination...
Prevalence of Apical Periodontitis and Frequency of Root-Filled Teeth in an Adult Czech Population
P. Závodský, P. Bednář
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 49-56
The pathogenesis of chronic apical periodontitis (CP) is almost clear today. This enables to perform causal therapy [1,2, 3, 5, 6]. Proper root canal treatment and obturation prevent development of CP. If CP is present at the time of treatment, it usually heals up. Additional surgical intervention is required very rarely. CP as a frequent coincidental finding in patients requesting treatment at the Dental Clinic in Hradec Kralove evokes the question of prevalence of CP. Panoramic X-ray films (OPG) from patients examined at the Dental Clinic in Hradec Kralove were used for the purpose of this study. The results illustrate the quality of dental care...
Stability of Bone Bed Crest of Loaded Implant - Comparison with Finite Element Models
L. Himmlová, T. Goldmann, A. Kácovský
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 66-72
The adaptation of the implant bone bed to chewing force has been quite often represented in X-ray images as the bowl shaped resorption around the implant neck. During the first year after the implant loading the marginal bone loss around the neck is more pronounced. Subsequeutly, the rate of the bone loss is either arrested or the resorption of the bone crest continues and the implant is lost within a few years. This study compared stability of the bone bed crest of the loaded implant to the size, shape and inclination of enosseal part of the implant and to the anchored denture. All the implants monitored in the study were scanned by X-ray images every...
Immediate Implants and Their Use in Clinical Stomatological Practice
K. Kaňovská, P. Prachár
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 73-77
The authors describe the history and present possibilities to solve deficient dentition by means of immediate implantation. The implants are mostly introduced into alveolus in a certain time lapse after tooth extraction, when the optimal bone structure is optimally restored. Under certain circumstances, if there is a sufficient amount of the bone in the apical area of the extraction alveoli, the endosseous implant can be introduced immediately after the tooth extraction. The communication lists other indications and contraindications of this method. The advantage of immediate implantation lay in the considerably shortened time period between the tooth...
LCH-Histiocytosis from Langerhans Cells in Craniofacial Region
M. Hubáček, J. Kozák
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 78-81
The authors retrospectively analyze the occurrence of histiocytosis from Langerhans cells (LCH) in a group of patients from the Children Stomatological Clinic in Prague - Motol from the years 1998-2003. There were 11 cases of LCH (6 boys and 5 girls) of the average age 5.4 years on the whole. In six cases the children suffered from monostotic form and in five cases there was the polyostitic form was determined. Attention was paid to the complexity of examined screening, unquestionable importance of histological examination. The possibility of LCH therapy is described. The authors prefer interdisciplinary collaboration in the diagnosis, therapy and...
Reconstruction of Bone Defects after Operations on Voluminous Maxillary Cysts
J. Pazdera, V. Zbořil, P. Tvrdý, Z. Kolář, M. Geierová, J. Novotný
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 82-87
The authors treated 125 patients with odontogenic jaw cysts of the volume larger than 2 cm3. In 75 of them the cystectomy was followed by reconstruction of the bone defect by lyophilized griaded allogenic spongious bone supplied by the Tissue Bank of the Faculty Hospital in Brno-Bohunice. The remaining 50 patients operated on in the usual way (cystectomy with primary suture of the wound) formed the control group. In the postoperative course the patients were subjected to control examination clinically and by radiography (CT examination was performed in selected patients with the use of modern imaging methods). In evaluating of the results...

Focal Infection of Dental Origin - (Review article)
P. Závodský, P. Bednář
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 57-62
Theory of focal infection has been the topic discussed and refused many times. Recently, with fast improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures it has become a very popular theme among specialists again. The aim of this article is to review the progress and current opinions of this problem. There are three different ways linking oral infection to secondary diseases. These are metastatic infection, metastatic injury, and metastatic inflammation. The most frequent oral (dental) foci are the consequences of long time persistence of microbial plaque (caries, apical periodontitis, marginal periodontitis). For exclusion of dental focal infection...
Disorder of Wound Healing in Dentoalveolar Practice
M. Šafářová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(3): 88-92
Some of the most commonly encountered and clinically significant impediments to wound healing include wound hypoxia, infection, presence of debris and necrotis tissue, use of anti-inflammatory medications, a diet deficient in vitamins or minerals, or general nutritional deficiencies, tumors, environmental factors, and metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus. Treatment of wounds should be directed against the main etiologic factors resonsible for the wound. Moreover, factors that may impede healing must be identified and, if possible, corrected, for healing. It also presents a challenge to physicians, caregivers, and patients alike.
