Diagnostic Possibilities in Impacted Teeth with Horizontal Position Near to Middle Palate Suture
P. Černochová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 87-91
In exceptional cases the impacted teeth in the upper jaw may occupy position and may be in the neighborhood of the middle palate suture. Such position may be recorded in impacted upper permanent canine teeth and in redundant supernumerary. The orthopantomogram (OPG) shows such teeth in a distorted way. The occlusal radiograph is the only classical X-ray picture, which shows hard palate. Computing tomography (CT) is the most perfect method for imaging of impacted teeth. The author exemplifies in three cases, how distorted picture is provided by OPG in comparison with the occlusal radiograph and CT examination.
Attachment of Composites to Hard Dental Tissues and Morphological Comparison of Effects of Two Adhesive Techniques
L. Roubalíková, R. Autrata, P. Wandrol
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 92-99
Introduction: The authors review the present state of the problems in connecting composite materials to hard dental tissues. Objective: The aim of the work was to examine and compare the appearance of enamel after adhesive adjustment (adaptation) by a total etching technique after treatment with an acid primer of the self-etching adhesive. Material and Methods: The experiment was made with 30 premolars extracted for orthodontic reasons. The extracted teeth were divided into groups, five premolars each. The etching gel of orthophosphoric acid was used for enamel without grinding as well as for enamel freed of the most superficial...

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 100-107
The aim of the work was to evaluate the shape and dimension of upper and lower arch in patients with cleft palate after a surgical-orthodontic therapy. We also compared these results with values measured in a randomly selected sample of a young adult population and patients with orthodontic anomaly without cleft palate before the treatment, immediately after therapy and after a lapse of time of 5 years. The measurement employed the Orthoscope apparatus and computing analysis of the image. It has been demonstrated that in patients with orthodontic anomalies and orofacial cleft palate, modern orthodontic therapy is capable of enlarging the upper dental...
New Approaches to the Problem of Third Molar
E. Rozkovcová, M. Marková, L. Mrklas
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 119-128
The authors review most important characteristics in the development of the third molar. They include the time of foundation, course and the duration of individual stages of development, dynamism in the development of the third molar if upper and lower jaw, the occurrence of agenesis and its microsymptoms and the relation of the development of third molar to the dental and chronological age.The analysis of panoramic radiograms from 1700 probands at the age of 5 and 21 years provided a general view of the development of the third molar from its foundation to the end of the root development. This picture may be considered as specific for the Czech...
Gingival Changes after Immunosuppressive Therapy II.
A. Fassmann, P. Augustín, J. Slapnička
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 129-131
There are emerging new problems associated with medication side effect with development of therapeutic modalities of current medical approaches. Some of these, such as Cyclosporin A (CsA), anticonvulsants, calcium channel blockers are associated with gingival overgrowth. We know the pharmacological mechanism of action, clinical and histopathological pictures, but the question about etiopathogenesis remains still open. The mechanism of gingival hyperplasia development is complicated and includes action of many co-factors, such as plaque, genetic predisposition, age and hormones. Drug-induced gingival overgrowth appears to be more prevalentin children...

The survey shows that oral health data of our seniors are comparable with those of the most privileged European countries.
Augmenting Materials Used in Dentistry - Present State
R. Jurkovič
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2005; 105(5): 135-138
The author deals with the present state of augmentation materials, which are most frequently used in modern implantology and periodontology. The direction of development of new and perspective materials, which improve the result, represented by a quality bone as the basis for other supportive tissues, is described.
