L. Macháčková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 101-104

It has become obvious that the dental condition in this group of senior citizens is poor and the prosthetic rehabilitation is generally unsatisfactory.

Our Contribution to Semipermanent Splinting

L. Roubalíková, J. Jančář, Z. Šedivý

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 105-110

Fiber composites have multiple uses in dental medicine. Possible clinical applications include the application of splints in the course of therapy of pulpoperiodontal diseases. Advanced stages of pulpoperiodontal affections require a complex approach - endodontic treatment together with the treatment of periodontium. In the described affection the tooth tends to be loose and this condition tends to deteriorate, though often transiently. That is why splints are indicated already before the beginning of the treatment. The authors describe the procedure encountered in making short splints from the fiber composite DentapregTM and present their...

Nutrition in Oncological Patients I. Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Main Substrates in Oncological Patients

Z. Wilhelm

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 111-114

Onkological disease is viewed a genetic disease resulting in the abnormal proliferation of a clone of cells. Oncological desease represents a systemic disease of the whole organism, not only the affected tissue or organ. There is a significant change in the metabolism of each as well as the organism, which does not only koncern the affected tissue or organ. There is a significant change in the metabolism of each cell and organism as a whole.

Nutrition in Oncological Patients II. Practical Recommendations and Procedures in the Nutrition of Oncological Patients

Z. Wilhelm

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 115-117

Oncological diseases markedly changes metabolic pathways, which are less effective in comparison with physiological ones. In other words, the outcome of the modified metabolism is a lower gain of high-energy substrates, e.g. ATP. This energy deficit is to be substituted. Concurrently with the substitution of so needed substrates we encounter a series of unfavorable factors, which not only decrease and change appetite, but they also increase aversion against some kinds of food, and deteriorate chewing and swallowing of food. The therapy of oncological diseases itself increases the above mentioned negative factors even more.

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor

R. Hodan, E. Gregušová, R. Čuřík, J. Syrovátka, P. Michna, J. Dokulil

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 157-162

The authors draw attention on the rare pathological unit named inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, which can affect any anatomical localization. In spite of the fact that it does not display any sign of malignant growth in the histological picture, it can already represent a sarcoma of low grade of malignity. The clinical behavior and therapy are shown in the case histories of patients with the findings of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors.

Distraction Exercise - a New Method for Conservative Treatment of Anterior Dislocation of Temporomandibular Joint Disc

J. Zemen

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 168-172

Derangements of the temporomandibular condyle-disc complex are divided into two categories: disc dislocation with reduction and disc dislocation without reduction. Definitive treatment for a disc dislocation is to reestablish a normal condyle-disc relationship. Although this may sound relatively easy, it has not proven to be so. There is used the anterior repositioning appliance, muscle relaxation appliance or supportive therapy as the analgesic or non-steroidal antiflogistic drugs and distractive manual manipulation. Another relatively conservative surgical approach for treating these intracapsular disorders is arthrocentesis or arthroscopy. When...

Late Orthodontic Prosthetic Therapy with the Use of Delair Mask

J. Racek, L. Cupal, T. Dostálová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 173-176

The adjustment of diastema and trema in complete set of dentition is not easy and requires an interdisciplinary approach. Conspicuous gaps at visible part of dentition represent a distractive or worrisome aesthetic handicap with negative influence on the individual's psyche and frequently also on the function of dentition. The presumption of the treatment success is the occlusion or substantial diminution of the trema with improved aesthetic appearance and removal of gnatologic interferences. In the case report the authors present good experience with the occlusion of trema at the adult age by orthodontic therapy, fixed apparatus and Delair mask with...

V. Zbořil, J. Pazdera, J. Novotný

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2006; 106(6): 163-167
