Anatomical Deviations of Endodontium as a Cause of Failure of Endodontic Treatment
H. Hecová, J. Stehlíková, V. Maąek
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 79-82
Anatomical conditions in the system of root canals represent a significant factor, which can influence the success of endodontic treatment. The structure and anatomy of endodontium is very complex and differs significantly in individual teeth. The failure to respect anatomical deviations is often a cause of failure and may results in extraction of the treated tooth. The authors present three cases, where the difficulties during endodontic treatment were caused by the failure to find a root canal.

The topic of dental casting alloys in the oral cavity is despite the most modern non-metal technologies still relevant. The knowledge of possible allergenic, mutagenic and cancerogenic impacts of these elements helps us working with patients and makes easier reaching of positive result of the prosthetic or orthodontic treatment. We try to mention at least some of the facts of negative attributes of these materials and possible methods of examination we use to prevent the complications.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 87-93
This clinical study assessed the corrosion behaviour of 4 types of nickel- chromium casting alloys commonly used in prosthodontic practice. Aim: The aim of study was to verify deposition of nickel and chromium into saliva after the dental product insertion into the mouth, to determine their exact concentrations by ET - AAS method. Further on, the project observed dynamics of metals changing release during certain time period and passive layer formation time. Methods: The research methodology was based on combining clinical study with laboratory testing. Fifteen volunteers delivered saliva samples to sterile tube at designated...
Longitudial Study of Oral Health in Preschool Children - Results of Entry Clinical Examination
R. Ivančaková, Z. Broukal, E. Lenčová, L. Mrklas
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 113-116
The aim of this study is to present the results of the entry clinical dental examination focused on dental status and caries experience of pre-school children attending kindergartens in Prague and Hradec Králové. The total number of 300 children aged 3 - 4 years has been examined. Selection criteria were no systemic disease of child and informed consent of parents. Following parameters were calculated: % caries free, dt, dmft, ri, sci and presence of dental plaque on upper incisors. The proportion of 57.10 % of children had intact primary dentition. The % of children with treated dentition was 3.65 and 39.25 % of children had one or more untreated...

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 117-122
The change in position and relationship of first permanent molars as well as the change in relationship and in axial position of upper and lower incisors in orthodontic therapy with extractions was measured. The sample comprised 55 patients; 28 patients were treated with extraction of two upper premolars, 27 patients were treated with extraction of four premolars - two in the maxilla and two in the mandible. The mesial movement of molars was present which was planned in many cases, however, in treatment without extractions in lower arch also the unplanned mesial movement of lower molars was found. In 8 of 28 patients without extraction in lower...

The autors on a series 354 teeth sextants of 59 patients aged 18 - 60 years with periodontitis followed up the effectiveness of a complete hygienic phase and recall on the development and extent of periodontitis, using CPITN index. CPITN index was found decreased between the first and follow up visit. Between control visit and recall the increase of CPITN index was observed. Introduction of the hygienic phase in oral hygiene caused an impact on the sanitary condition of periodontium. Therefore, the authors recommend the hygienic phase as an integral part of the treatment plan in each patient.
Low-viscosity Composite Filling Materials as an Alternative in Treating Cervical Defects
A. El-Lababidi
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 130-134
The author in his present study focuses on the behavior of cervical fillings created using the lowviscosity composite filling material Tetric® Flow in combination with the 6th generation, no-mix, self-etching adhesive system AdheSE®. The treated defects were of both carious and non-carious origin. The study was performed on the total number of 29 patients, 10 males and 19 females with both carious and non-carious cervical lesions. The total number of 79 cervical defects was treated during the year 2002. Thirty of those defects were of carious origin and 49 of non-carious origin. The fillings were then periodically...

Non-surgical Treatment of a Tooth Associated with a Large Periapical Radiolucency Resembling Periapical Cyst
S. Sukumar, P. Bednář, I. Dřízhal
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(5): 94-97
The treatment of teeth associated with large periapical lesions require definitive skill in diagnosis and decision making. In this case report, a 41-year-old male with a large radiolucency in the periapical region of maxillary right lateral incisor is described. The radiolucency resembled a periapical "bay cyst". The periapical lesion followed necrosis of the pulp. Non-surgical root canal treatment was done. During the course of treatment sodium hypochlorite was used for irrigation and calcium hydroxide was used as the intracanal dressing. After obturation, the patient was instructed to come for evaluation, but he appeared only after 3 years. A radiograph...
