Sequelae of Dental Trauma in the Primary Dentition

Dental traumatic injuries are very common and occur frequently in children at an early age. Epidemiological studies have shown a frequency of approximately 30% of primary dentition that is affected by trauma. The close relationship between the apices of primary teeth and germs of the permanent successors can lead to developmental disturbances in the permanent dentition. Development disturbances in permanent teeth caused by trauma in their predecessors have a prevalence that ranges from 12 -74%.

Dentin represents a mineralized hard tooth tissue which forms the core of clinical tooth crown and root. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease in the neuromuscular transmission, causing muscular weakness and fatique especially in the facial and pharyngeal muscles. The stomatology care provided to these patients should consider specificities of this disease. Some patients are afflicted by from residual disorders of muscles in the oral cavity, and others suffer from side effects of drugs which inhibit autoimmune inflammation. The review summarizes present knowledge and experience with bone piezosurgery, which represents a perspective soft tissue-friendly technique of bone surgery, which is based on ultrasound microvibrations. The main advantage of piezosurgery include protection of soft tissues, a high degree of orientation in the operation field, decreased blood loss, less vibrations and noise and a higher comfort to the patient. Orthodontic Therapy in Patient with Facial Complete Palate Cleft (Part 2)

In the case report the of orthodontic therapy is documented in a 12-year boy with bilateral complete cleft of upper jaw in the phase of preparing to surgical reconstruction of alveolar process. Prior to the planned surgical intervention it became necessary to increase the width of upper dental arch and to adjust mutual position of individual segments of upper jaw. In order to achieve transversal expansion the authors used palatal fixed orthodontic appliance with a hyrax type screw.
