M. Havlík

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(4): 53-56

The study has analysed situation in non-cooperative patients admitted for dental treatment in 2009. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of dental caries in adult patients treated under general anesthesia, and to Compaq with patients treated under local anaesthesia. To evaluate dental health the DMFT index was used. DMFT of the group of patients treated under general anaesthesia was 11.95, and DMFT of the group of patients treated under local anaesthesia was 9.5. The study has demonstrated poor oral health status in non-cooperative patients. Parents and persons taking care of handicapped patients should be trained in dental prophylactic...

Morphological Analysis of Root Canal Walls after Laser Treatment

L. Roubalíková, J. Trčka, M. Bumbálek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(4): 78-82

The objective of the work was to investigate and compare the appearance of root canal walls after treatment with the Er, Cr:YSGG laser and a diode laser. Fifteen extrated teeth divided at random into three groups were treated by endodontic methods using manual tools up to the ISO 30 size. The first group was subsequently exposed to Er, Cr:YSGG laser, the other group was exposed to diode laser and the samples of the third group was then treated manually by the balanced force method up to the ISO 40 size. The irrigation was made by 0.12% chlorhexidine solution. After the treatment with the Er,Cr:YSGG laser the walls were predominantly deprived of...

Gunshot Injuries of the Middle Facial Floor Accompanied by Damage of Vision

L. Dzan, S. Ježková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(4): 88-94

Gunshot injuries are even at time of peace one of the possible causes of injury of the middle face region. The severity of these injuries depends on the size of kinetic energy of projectiles or fragments (calculated by the formula:KE=MV2/2,where M is the mass of the projectile and V is the velocity of the bullet) and the type of cavity from the shot and the relationship to the organism (strike, shoot, or bullet hole). We distinguish three areas for each gun channel. The first is inherent channel space with remnants of tissue and foreign bodies, second is the remnants of the damage tissue and finally the foreign body (the bullet) itself....

Health Risks Related to Impression Procedures in Dentistry

Z. Zdráhal, L. Vavřičková, R. Slezák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(4): 49-52

There is a lot of risks of methods used for impressions, which could be bent out or minimized. They are divided in risks evocated by impression materials and risks related to impression procedures. Hypersensitivity and toxic reactions belong to risks evocated by impression materials. More extensive are risks related to impression technique. They include damage of periodontal tissue, dismantling of the crown or bridge, holding retraction cord in the gingival sulcus, impression material as a foreign body in the maxillary sinus, vomiting, and the activation of HSV infection and aspiration of the impression material.

Invasive Mycotic Infection in Orofacial Region

Z. Daněk, L. Procházková, M. Machálka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(4): 83-87

The authors describe the occurrence of zygomycosis in orofacial region in two patients with hematological malignancy.Invasive mycotic infections represent serious complications in the therapy of oncological patients. Most invasive mycoses are caused by the Candida and Aspergillus strains, but we increasingly encounter infections by rare filamentous fungi such as zygomycosis due to medicament prophylaxis.Clinical development becomes manifest in the beginning as a periosteal inflammation of atypical course and rapidly developing necroses of soft and hard tissues. The predisposing factor for the origin of zygomycosis is immune compromise of the...
