Introduction: The etiology of temporomandibular joint disorders is multifactorial. The most frequent symptoms are pain and limited mouth opening. Nearly half of the population has difficulties with temporomandibular joint, patients suffer from common symptoms as for example pain, but only 15 per cent of these patients seek medical help. Accurate measurement, early diagnosis and classification of disorders of TMK as well as evaluation of available treatment methods, can significantly increase the effect of the therapy. Methods: The set of 115 patients was created during the study; all of them underwent initial preoperative examination...

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2012; 112(5): 118-127 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2012.019
Aim of Study: The study was designed as a prospective model of caries increment, plaque presence and levels of cariogenic microorganisms with repeated examinations over three years to determine the caries increment dynamics and its relationship to risk factors of carious attack. Material and Methods: At the baseline, 273 children (150 boys and 123 girls) with the mean age of 3.86 years were included in the study. Dentition of the children was clinically examined in the field, in nurseries, using a mirror, rounded probe and headlight with a caries detection limit of a D3 lesion according to the WHO recommendations. The presence of...

Tooth agenesis review

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2012; 112(5): 97-102 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2012.038
Background: Tooth agenesis means absence or incomplete development of tooth. It is a common human anomaly, which according to Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man database affects approximately 20% of the population. Third molars are most commonly affected teeth, followed by upper lateral incisors or lower second premolars. Agenesis differs by continent and gender. Prevalence of dental agenesis in females is higher than in males. The prevalence for both sexes is higher in Europe and Australia than in North American Caucasians. In literature, several terms are used to describe the anomalies in number of teeth. Oligodontia is term, which is used...
Cholesterol as an Aetiological Factor of Persistent Asymptomatic Apical Periodontitis
J. Kováč
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2012; 112(5): 135-142 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2012.021
Objectives: Microbial colonization of the root canal system has been shown to be the prime cause of apical periodontitis. Therefore, the main goal of the endodontic treatment is to eliminate microorganisms present in the root canal system, remove disintegrated pulp tissues that could serve as substrate for microbial growth, and fill the endodontic space to preclude bacterial recolonization, so as to prevent apical periodontitis or allow its healing. Microbial infection persisting in the root canal and/or periapex is also considered to be the most significant factor that affects the outcome of endodontic therapy. However, there are also other...

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2012; 112(5): 128-134 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2012.020
Introduction: Papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum (Warthin's tumour) primarily occurs in parotid glands (5-10% of all the parotid salivary tumours) with slight predilection for males and clinical symptoms between the fifth and eighth decades of life. Its clinical manifestation in other locations (e.g. small palatinal salivary glands) is very rare. This tumour typically presents itself as a doughy cystic-like mass in the inferior part of the parotid gland. It is composed of small cystic spaces with intraluminal projection lined by eosinophillic columnar cells and contains abundant lymphoid tissue in the underlying connective tissue. The tumour...
