Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2013; 113(1): 7-13 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2013.004

Introduction: A considerable body of evidence has shown that the parental educational level (PEL) as well as health status in early childhood play a significant role in child dental caries. A multicentric European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ELSPAC) conducted also in Brno collected a great amount of data from clinical and socio-economic areas related to children's general health. Aim: To assess the relationship between caries experience and gingivitis manifestation in 13-years-olds to 15-years-olds and the PEL of their parents in a retrospective case-series study. Methods: Randomly selected children from...

Surgical Completion of Primarily Nonsurgical Stomatologic Operation Commenced Wearing Nonsterile Disposable Gloves

L. Dzan, P. Telekesová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2013; 113(1): 7-11 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2013.032

Introduction, Aim: A dental practitioner may be exposed to a situation when simple tooth extraction (carried out wearing nonsterile disposable gloves) needs completing surgically due to unforeseen complications. This paper's objective is assessing the possible risk of pathogenic microorganism transfer if the operation is completed wearing the initially worn nonsterile disposable gloves. We suggested two hypotheses: H₀: Simple tooth extraction, converted to surgical tooth extraction due to unpredicted complications in the course of operation, may not be completed wearing the initially worn nonsterile disposable gloves for the...

Is there a Possibility of Early Diagnosis of Acromegaly by General Practicioner?

L. Atanasová, J. Horáček, R. Slezák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2013; 113(1): 20-26 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2013.006

Introduction, Aim: Acromegaly is a disease that importantly shortens the life-expectancy without its treatment. Due to the slow and indolent clinical course of acromegaly, the diagnosis is often delayed, making the treatment less successful. As many of the clinical signs may be found in the cranium and orofacial region, we believe that a well-educated and careful dentist can be the first health care worker who voted for acromegaly suspected, and shorten the period the disease onset to its detection and treatment.Acromegaly is a relatively rare and slowly progressive disease. The disease is caused by pathologically increased production of...

The Loss of First Permanent Molar in Young Patients

M. Koťová, J. Hovorka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2013; 113(1): 14-19 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2013.005

Introduction: The loss of first permanent molar significantly reduces the biological quality of the dentition. In addition to prosthetic rehabilitation in indicated cases, we can also take advantage of orthodontic space closure with mesial shift of the second and third permanent molar. The result of this solution may not always be satisfactory. As an unindicated orthodontic space closure post extraction leads to worsening of space ratios in the affected part of the dentition and causes disorder in relationship between antagonists. To restore good functional and morphological harmony of the dental arches it is then necessary to compen-sate the...
