Aim of Study: Evaluate prevalence of fibrous hyperplasias in maxilla and mandible at the workplace. Material and Methods: Retrospective analysis in a group of 124 patients (51 men, 73 women, mean age 45.7 years, range 14 - 84 years) treated within the years 2011 and 2012 with histologically verified lesions: focal fibrous hyperplasia (irritation fibroma), epulis fibromatosa, hyperplastic fibrous gingivitis (medicamentous, hereditary or idiopathic) and fissural granuloma. Results: 12 cases of focal fibrous hyperplasia (9.68 %), 29 epulis fibromatosa (23.39 %), 45 hyperplastic fibrous gingivitis (36.29 %) and 38 epulis fissuratum...

Introduction, Aim: Mechanical transfer of load onto the bone affects, besides implant material properties (microdesign), especially the type of thread used and its parameters (macrodesign). There are four basic types of thread: a) metric, b) flat, c) saw-tooth, d) inverted saw-tooth and two modified shapes as specified in standard ISO TC 150: e) ISO Shallow HA cortical, and f) ISO Deep HB cancellous. Mechanical transfer is a characteristic of the rate of mechanical stress transfer from thread to bone, which is less than one. The value of one constitutes an ideal situation but due to different strengths and elasticities in the bone and in the...

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2013; 113(4): 95-103 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2013.021

Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of dental anomalies and associations among them in Czech orthodontic patients and to verify possible association between the prevalence of dental anomalies and gender. Material and methods: The retrospective study comprised 400 consecutive orthodontic patients, 170 males (aged 15.48 ± 6.26) and 230 females (15.59 ± 6.28). The prevalence of dental anomalies was evaluated on panoramic radiographs, lateral cephalograms and dental casts. Results: It was found that 56.75% of the orthodontic patients had dental anomalies, 27.5% of the patients exhibited...

Introduction: Surgical reconstruction of soft and hard tissues of the middle face and functional rehabilitation are keystones of the treatment of facial clefts. The surgical treatment is followed by orthodontic, phoniatric and dental treatment, also speech therapy is indicated. The patient is further regularly treated at otorhinolaryngology and at the other departments as needed. After primary surgery of the clefted upper lip and palate closure during the first year of the patient's live the cleft defect of the vestibule and alveolar process persists as oronasal fistula. The reconstruction of clefted alveolar ridge is indicated around ninth...

Introduction: Expert systems are among the most successful applications of artificial intelligence. Since their own commercial introduction in the early 80's of the last century, they have undergone rapid develop-ment and now they are used in many fields of human activity, such as in science, technology, production, trade, etc. In recent years, they are more and more used in medicine. Matherials and methods: In this paper, we point out the possibility of using the expert systems for diagnosis of diseases. Based on our experience in the treatment of mandibular bone cysts, we developed in our department an expert system for decision...
