Influence of Implant Length and Diameter on Stress Distribution

L. Himmlová, S. Konvičková, A. Kácovský, T. Dostálová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 155-163

The aim of the study was to determine the influence of length and diameter on stress distribution in bone around loaded dental intra osseal implants. The computation was made by the FEA method using the 3D models of implant size modifications. For the study of the length factor, the diameter of 3.6 mm and lengths of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, and 18 mm were calculated. The factor of diameter was modeled by 12 mm long implant with diameters of 2.9mm, 3.6 mm, 4.2 mm, 5.0 mm, 5.5 mm, 6.0 mm and 6.5 mm. Implants were vertically insertedin the bone. All models were loaded by forces of 17.1 N, 114.6 N and 23.4 N, in vestibulo-oraldirection, axial direction and...

Dental Treatment of Untreatable Patients under General Anaesthesia

M. Dufková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 164-170

The paper analyzes a group of 32 adult non-cooperating patients who in 1997-1999 had dental treatment under general anaesthesia. In the majority mental patients were involved, people with mental affections and two subjects with an uncontrollable vomitingreflex. The majority were in domiciliary care. The patients were examined and had a singletreatment under general anaesthesia with orotracheal intubation. The authors assessed the availability of this special care for untreatable patients, the dental cariosity using the DMFindex, the mean period of treatment, the number of operations, materials used, and types of caries according to Black's classification....

Adverse Effects of Drugs in Dental Patients: Part 1 - Non-stomatological Medication

R. Houba, H. Houbová, E. Valentová, J. Zemen

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 171-179

The authors submit an account on adverse effects of drugs manifested in the orofacial region, drugs which were indicated for non-stomatological diseases. The paper issupplemented by five tables and a review of more frequent adverse effects e.g., haemorrhage after surgery, lesions of the oral mucosa , xerostomia etc.

Adverse Effects of Drugs in Dental Patients: Part 2 - Stomatological Medication

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 180-183

In part 2 of the paper the authors submit the problem of general adverse effects of drugs prescribed or administered by the dental surgeon. The paper is supplemented by a table of frequently described non-stomatological adverse effects.

VNI Implant System - 7-years Experiences

J. Vaněk, P. Prachár, A. Fassmann, S. Bartáková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 183-187

The authors present the results of 7-years clinical evaluation of enosseal dental implants VNI (produced in the Czech Republic) at the Dental Clinic in Brno (former 2nd Dental Clinic). Clinical success rate of total 340 VNI dental implants applied in 163 patient aged from16 to 75 years was evaluated in the period of 1-7 years after implant insertion. Apart of wholeset of patients, age-, sex-, upper jaw-, and lower jaw-related subsets were evaluated using radiovisiographically. In addition, the success rate in patients exhibiting prosthetic indication of dental implants used as abutments was evaluated. Mean clinical success rate of dentalimplants was...

Internal Granuloma

J. Kouřilová, L. Šochmanová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 184-188

The authors describe the case of a frontal tooth affected with an internalgranuloma. The cause was not elucidated. Treatment was successful and involved earlyendodontic and surgical treatment.

Intermaxillary Fixation (IMF) and Minisplints in the Maxillofacial Region

D. Hirjak, I. Satko, J. Zajko

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 199-205

In the submitted paper the authors discuss their views and experience with the application of minisplints. Principles were elaborated according to which the minisplint fixation system can be universally used in traumatology of the maxillofacial region and in orthognatic surgery. By fixation by means of a minisplint adequate stability of fragments is ensured evenin the most exposed area of the mandibular angle. It makes mandibular movement possible, as well as intake of liquid food, oral hygiene shortly after surgery. As to subjective aspects the patient perceives treatment by minisplints without IMF, as compared with treatment where IMF is necessary,...

Cervicofacial Actinomycosis

J. Hiemer, J. Novák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 206-211

The authors describe their experience with the diagnosis and treatment of cervicofacial actinomycosis. They diagnosed the condition in a total of 12 patients, 11 men and one woman. In two patients the disease was manifested by a tumour of the lower lip, in onepatient the infection was in the maxillary sinus and in nine patients there was an inflammationin the area of the mandibular angle. The most frequently applied treatment was parenteral administration of large doses of penicillin. In all instances treatment was successful and there were no relapses of the disease.

Concentrations of Fluorides in Breast Milk and Urine in Nursing Mothers in Prague 1997-1998

Z. Broukal, J. Dušková, L. Bártová, O. Zajíček

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 212-215

Concentrations of fluorides in samples of breast milk and urine were determinedin a group of nursing mothers living in Prague in 1997-1998. Fluoride level in breast milk was traced as a natural source of fluorides in the infants nutrition. The excretion of fluorides inurine was ascertained as the reflection of the mother's fluoride intake. The mean concentration of fluoride in breast milk amounted to 0.10 ppm F while the one in urine was twice as high. The breast milk fluoride levels correlated well with those in urine. It can be stated, that the breast milk as a sole source of fluorides in infant's nutrition is deficite and in the period of fullnursing...

Oral Hygiene of the Cleft Patient

E. Gojišová, M. Koťová, I. Chudobová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 216-221

Oral cavum morphology of the cleft patient is distorted due to the congenital defect. Unusual locations of plaque retention are created. Thus, appropriate oral hygienetechnique gains importance. Our experiences show that the oral hygiene status of the cleftpatients is at an insufficient level. The research was run on random sample of thirty patients confirmed our observations: the average Aproximal Plaque Index - API was 83 % (s = 13), Bleeding Index - BI was 38 % (s = 21).

Biochemistry of Periodontal Connective Tissues. I. Contemporary Aspect. Review

O. Zajíček, Z. Venclíková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2000; 100(6): 222-229

In the first part of the review the authors submit an account of contemporary knowledge of basic high-molecular componenents of periodontal tissue - collagen and proteoglycans. Periodontal tissue contains seven types of collagen and several types of proteoglycans. Their exact amount has not been assessed so far. The basic chemical properties of these two macromolecules and their combinations account for the basic structural and functional properties of periodontal connective tissues.
