The Use of FRC Retention Splint in Orthodontic Patient in Magnetic Resonance Examination

V. Filipi, L. Gregor, P. Černochová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 61-63

Introduction: The effort to exclude metals from stomatological treatment follows to continuing effort for development of new materials or application of materials from other branches. The fiber-reinforced composites have been used in dental medicine since the end of 80ies. They are composed from glass fibers embedded in a resin matrix. For splinting the materials have been used in the form of strips which toughen during the application. Care report: The authors planned the magnetic resonance imaging of the head in the orthodontic patient for suspected neurological illness. In view of the character of the disease the physician was...

Evaluation of Chemical Stability of Coating Layer of Zirconium Nitride on the Basic Construction from Chromium-cobalt Alloy

S. Bartáková, P. Prachár, L. Cvrček, V. Březina, J. Vaněk

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 63-66

In recent dental implantology, technically pure titanium or its alloys are broadly used as common metal material. The material possesses optimal biological characteristics. Unfortunately, its technological processing is difficult and limiting for production of some types of dental implants. Subperiostal implants might be pointed out in this respect. The objective of research project was to substitute titanium and titanium alloys for wellprocessed chromium-cobalt alloy coated with ceramic material ZrN or multilayered Zr/ZrN. Other objective was to prove its biocompatibility, full adhesivity and mechanical resistance. Results indicated high chemical...

Effect of Fluoridated Milk on Progression of Root Surface Lesions in vitro under pH Cycling Conditions

R. Ivančaková, J. D. Harless, M. M. Hogan, J. S. Wefel

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 67-72

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of milk with 0, 2.5 or 5 ppm F- on progression and remineralization of caries-like root-surface lesions using a pH cycling model. The root-surface lesions were created utilizing a partially saturated lactic acid buffer at pH 4.6. Longitudinal sections were cut through the lesion and analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and microradiography (MRG). The sections were then coated with an acid resistant varnish, except the outer natural surface that would be exposed to water, milk or fluoridated milk for 2 weeks and cycled in a de- and remineralizing system. The lesions were characterized again by...

The Arthritis Therapy of Temporomandibular Joint

V. Machoň, J. Paska

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 73-76

This article is about therapy of the arthritis of the TMJ (comparisson between non-surgery therapy and miniinvasive therapy and combination - arthrocenthesis with occlusal splint together). The most effective method of the therapy of the arthritis is combination arthrocenthesis with occlusal splint (87,5% good results 3 months after beginning of the therapy) - in comparisson with other methods (analgotherapy 53%, occlusal splint 75%, arthrocenthesis 84%).

Methods of Vital Pulp Therapy - Direct Pulp Capping

E. Záhlavová, J. Netolický

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 89-93

In this long-term, clinical study, the authors are concerned with the history, development and contemporary possibilities of vital pulp therapy. Our department has been for more than thirty years engaged in following of repair processes in the dental pulp, as well as results after the treatment of injured dental pulp during direct pulp capping. Clinical observation was complemented by experimental study on human teeth.Initial hypothesis of successful direct pulp capping:Biologically high-quality dental pulp can be repairedCapping material should support repair processes in the dental pulpCavity must be closed with hermetic filling without...

Changes in the Shape of Lower Dental Arch after Treatment with Fixed Appliance

M. Kotas

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 101-107

Aim: To find out changes in the shape of lower dental arch after the extraction and nonextraction treatment with straight-wire appliance immediately after removal of the appliance. Subjects: Plaster casts of lower dental arch of 122 patients treated with the straight-wire appliances were classified into three groups according to the treatment:Group I (n=51): nonextraction treatment in the lower dental arch, possibly supplemented with stripping, with or without extraction in upper dental arch; Group II (n=21): non-extraction treatment with planned modification of the arch shape (namely Angle II/2); Group III (n=50): extraction...

Determination of the Risk of Caries Origin in Early Childhood

V. Merglová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 85-89

Caries is presently considered as an infection disease, which requires new preventive and therapeutic procedures. Attention is drawn to early detection and evaluation of protective and risk factors from the standpoint of caries origin and the determination of the risk of caries origin already in the pregnant woman or the first visit of the child to the dentist. The first stomatological examination of the child should be done at 12 months of age at the latest and, based on the determination of the risk, to plan most suitable preventive measures, which could eliminate the risk of the origin of sc. caries in early childhood, but also the frequency of...

Adhesive Systems in Prevention of Dental Caries

E. Gojišová, M. Vambera

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2007; 107(4): 94-100

Imperfect treatment of lost dental tissue can easily lead to its other destruction and dental sensitivity. Today, we have a possibility to treat and fill lost dental crown with adhesive technique and filling composite resins. Authors try in the report to evaluate adhesive systems of Vth and VIth Generation from a view of achieving optimal hermetical sealing of prepared tissue and perfect aesthetical filling in dental cervical region as a recurrent caries formation prevention. In the study we evaluated adhesive systems type total-etch (Vth generation) and self-etch (Vith generation) according to ISO/TS 11405.2003 E. The study confirms that present dentinal...
