O. Brázda
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(6): 79-82
J. N. Čermák (Czermak) was born in Prague (1828) in a family devoted to medical practice and science. He belongs to Purkyně's pupils - in Wroclav as his student, later in Prague as his assistant. Čermak as professor of physiology was active at several universities in Graz, Cracow, Pest .He was considered to be most suitable successor of Purkyně. But Purkyně Czearmak's wish to work as extraordinary Professor in Prague, politely, but firmly refuses. Čermak accepts invitation from university at Jena and finally from Leipzig, where in 1873 dies. K. Chytilová, J. Pazdera, P. Tvrdý
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(6): 83-87
In the review the authors outline present knowledge on botanical characteristics of some plants and berrylike fruits (cranberry, blackberry, strawberry, grapevine, honeysuckle) and favorable effects of compounds they contain (protoanthocyanins, anthocyanins, ellagic acid, flavonoids) on oral health. Some of these favorable effects have been used in folk medicine in the past. At the present time these properties are the subject of intensive research and they have been also confirmed in tests performed in vitro. The attention is devoted especially to their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticancer effects and their possible use in stomatology.

Intrusion of Permanent Teeth
H. Hecová, V. Merglová, R. Houba, J. Stehlíková
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(6): 123-127
Intrusion of permanent teeth belongs to less frequent but serious injuries. Due to the axial impact at the time of accident the affected tooth is dislocated into the alveolar bone. Periodontal fibers, pulp, cement, alveolar bone and adjacent soft tissues are damaged during the intrusion to various degrees. In the present study analysis of 32 intruded permanent teeth was performed. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and etiology of intruded permanent teeth and to compare it with success of the treatment in individual ways of reposition. The study revealed that the most frequent cause of intrusion luxation of permanent teeth was falling...
A Prototype of Biaxial Extensometer to Measure Human Skin Elasticity
L. Dzan, Z. Lochman, L. Čapek, A. Lufinka
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(6): 136-138
In our article we would like to present the results of joint research carried out at the Regional Hospital in Liberec and the Technical University of Liberec. The aim of this research was to design a prototype for biaxial measuring of mechanical properties of the human skin in vivo. Biaxial application of the load will allow for the evaluation of specific human skin parameters which cannot be determined during a uniaxial tensile test because of the skin anisotropy. This prototype was called "BiEx" (biaxial extensometer).

Enterococcus Faecalis and Its Influence of the Success of Endodontic Treatment
K. Alinčová, R. Slezák
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(6): 128-135
The aim of this review article was an overview about Enterococcus faecalis and effective working process during the treatment of root canals in order to precede failure of the endodontic therapy as the consequence of the presence of this bacterium. Enterococcus faecalis is isolated significantly more often from secondarily treated root canals. It seems to colonize the dental root canal system likely by the transmission from oral cavity within the root canal treatment as the consequence of an insufficient asepsis control or through temporary or definitive filling leakages in the crown part of the tooth. The exogenic source of the infection is likely...
