In a group of 25 children, mean age 9.2 years, sex ratio boys /girls 3:1 the authorssought the ratio of different supernumerary teeth participating in the retention of centralincisors and investigated the relation between the developmental stage of the root of centralincisors at the time of appearance and their subsequent growth activity. The latter proved inincisors, the root development of which was no yet completed, very good and it seems there fore useful to remove the supernumerary tooth which is an obstacle to eruption as soon as possiblebecause with terminated development of the root spontaneous eruption declines markedly. We detected differences in the width of the gingiva of the median incisors after their spontaneous eruption and in methods of an apically positioned flap and closed eruption. In more than half the cases the authors recorded changes in the root shape or length
