Introduction: The aim of this retrospective study is to compare the success rate of implants in the edentulous lower jaw in elderly and younger patients.

Method: 248 patients with l240 implants were evaluated (every patient had five implants). 44 patients were minimally 70 years old (senior group), 204 patients were younger (control group).

Results: The statistical analysis reveals that the success rate of implants was comparable in the both groups.

Conclusion: Consequently, we can assume that the long-term success rate of the implants in elderly patients will not be lower.

Keywords: dental implants; erderly; success rate; smoking; oral hygiene
