Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 183-191

The author discusses in his paper the problem of genetically conditioned diseases and their manifestation in the craniofacial region. In vitro Study of the Bond Gallium Alloy - Adhesive Cement

Z. Mach, K. Marušková, T. Růžičková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 197-203

The authors evaluate stability of an adhesive - gallium alloy bond after a long term storage and thermal stressem by method described by Watanabe et al (JDR 67:383, Abs. 2159). In the study were used materials Galloy (SDI, Australia) and adhesive composites cements All-Bond C&B (BISCO, USA) and Panavia 21 (Kuraray, Japan). The acquired values of shear bond strength were equivalent or significantly higher for gallium alloy than amalgam bonded by both adhesive cements.

Dental Health Status in Drug Addicts in the Czech Republic

M. Krutina, A. Pilinová, M. Šalandová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 204-209

The aim of this study was to describe the oral health status and behavior of drug addicts in the Czech Republic. The pilot study was conducted in a group of 17 - 40-year-old drug addicts (n = 30) and results were compared with data of age-matched sample of the general adult population in the Czech Republic. Oral health status in drug addicts was significantly worse in most findings than in general population. Mean DMFT of the addicted group amounted to 16,2, in general population to 12,4. The periodontal status could not be assessed in 4,5 % of drug addicts because of missing teeth, others showed in 18,2 % gum bleeding, in 45,5 % calculus present,...

Changes of the Facial Appearance after Treatment of Bimaxillary Protrusion by the "Straight Wire" Method

J. Racek, I. Chourová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 208-214

The authors describe the procedure used and results achieved by orthodontic treatment of a bimaxillary protrusion in a 17-year-old female patient. This defect caused an impaired appearance and profile of the face, in particular in the region of the lips. For orthodontic repair of the anomaly the "straight wire" method was used, The active and retention stage of treatment took 17 months. After its termination the dentoalveolar values reached normal levels and the appearance of the face improved.

Surgical Treatment of Maxillo-orthopaedic Anomalies

D. Hirjak, J. Zajko, J. Švidraň

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 215-219

The authors discuss in the submitted paper advances in the treatment of maxillo-orthopaedic anomalies in different points. They put greatest emphasis on collaboration with a maxillary orthopaedist. Intervention on both jaws makes it possible to create a stable and balanced occlusion with a favourable cosmetic result. The possibility to eliminate rigid IMF enables bone to heal under dynamic conditions. The postoperative comfort of the patient is also greater.

Wedge-shaped Defects

L. Novák, V. Půža, M. Červinka, J. Kolářová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 220-226

The authors present the definition of wedge-shaped defects and the most frequently published views on their etiology. They pay attention to the clinical picture, classification of wedge-shaped defects and their treatment, in particular from the aspect of the biological effect of the most frequently recommended filling materials, based on their own experience as well as on views published in the literature. Clinical experience described in the literature is not satisfactory so far. If wedge-shaped defects are a special form of chronic caries, fillings are not a permanent solution. Polymers without polymer contraction might be an improvement. Wedge-shaped...

Thermafil Technique Using Glass Ionomer Root Canal Sealer

Z. Halačková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 227-234

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Thermafil endodontic obturation technique. Extracted single-tooted teeth were treated by the step-back technique. The root canal were obtured by gutta-percha points containing a central plastic carrier, Ketac Endo was used as a sealer. The filled root canals were cut transversally, and the quality of the obturation was investigated in the apical, middle and coronal thirtds respectively. Five tooth were cut longitudinally. All samples were routinely preparred for SEM investigation. The results of the study in SEM indicated that the apical third of the root canal was obtured totally. Thermafil gutta-percha...

Effect of Traction on the Microscopic Structure of Human Dental Pulp

M. Kukletová, O. Jedličková, M. Pokorná

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 235-241

The authors investigated, using a light microscope, the structure of dental pulp after orthodontic traction with forces of 30 g and 40 g. The histological structure of dental pulp revealed only small deviations from control teeth not exposed to traction. Slight changes which were found in dental pulp are considered by the authors, in view of their localization, character and size, reversible with the exception of tertiary dentin formation. The force used can be considered feasible, biologically favourable and clinically effective.

V. Pávek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 1998; 98(6): 242-245

The paracetamol-codeine analgesic Dafalgan ® Codeine administered closely before a dentoalveolar operation mitigated successfully postoperative pain in 95.0 % of the patients and made undisturbed sleep possible.
