Profilometric Analysis on the Surface of Composite Materials

P. Pírek, M. Kopřiva

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 3-8

The optimum way to polish composite materials in the physician's consulting room and in the dental laboratory remains an open question. The authors analyzed the surface of samples of laboratory composites after polishing. Different ways of polishing of the hybridglass polymer Artglass and a more recent microfilled glass polymer Signum produced by Heraeus-Kulzer were compared. The roughness of surface was measured by the method of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). At the level of AFM the microfilled glass polymer Signumproved to be polished better than the Artglass material. In the samples of glass polymer composite Artglass polished with the Opal paste...

The Treatment of Tooth Root Canaliculi with Laser with X-ray Contrast Waveguide

T. Dostálová, H. Jelínková, J. Šulc, M. Němec, P. Radina, M. Miyagi, Shi Yi-Wei, Y. Matscura

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 3-9

The aim of study was to check the application of a new x-ray contrast hollowwaveguide which is suitable for x-ray diagnostics and treatment required in endodontics. Er:YAG and Alexandrie laser system generating a wavelength of 2940 nm and 375 nm were used. The root canals of 10 teeth were treated endodontically and result of that treatment was compared with the common cleaning methods. During the treatment the x-ray images were taken with conventional files and using this new design hollow waveguide. After laser therapy the teeth were cut in a longitudinal axis and viewed using the scanning electron microscope. It was demonstrated that no differences...

Prosthetic Therapy in Patients with Cleft Palate (A Historical Survey)

T. Strnadel

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 9-14

The prosthetic therapy of patients with cleft anomalies is a part of complex multidisciplinary therapy, where pediatrician, geneticist, phoniatrist, surgeon and stomatologist, orthodontist and prosthetic specialist participate. This historical survey evaluates the share of stomatological prosthetic care in the therapy of these patients, which has changed significantly over time in connection with the development of other medical branches and inrelation to the progress in stomatological prosthetics itself. Beginning with the antique period the author pays attention to the most significant personalities, who principally influenced the development in...

Tests for Efficiency of Full Denture Substitution Made by the Method of Gerber

J. Lichnovská, J. Bezrouk, M. Eber

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 10-20

The paper deals with the evaluation of the mastication efficiency in a group of 38 pacients with old full denture substitutions and the same group with full denture substitution made by the method according to Gerber. The authors also evaluated the mastication efficiency in a control group of 11 patients with natural teeth, and the results of evaluation were compared with those of the group of patients with full denture substitution. The group of patients with full denture substitution made by the method according to Gerber revealed better results that the group of patients with old full denture substitution. The production of full denture substitution...

Adhesion Remedies in Stomatology - Part II (A Review)

T. Bartoň, D. Houšová, L. Himmlová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 15-23

The paper analyzes in detail the evolution of clinical working procedures in the preparation of dentin for the realization of bonding of adhesion remedies. The importance isdescribed as well as the possibilities to adjust the post-preparation layer (smear layer) for adhesion-conditioning, total etching, application of the primer and the bond. The authors clarify the origin of so called hybrid layer after the application of the primer and the bond (resin-dentin interdiffusion zone). Attention is drawn to the importance of various components of adhesionsystems on the quality of the bond (acetone, alcohol, water solvents, active compounds etc.). The paper...

Possibilities to Improve Primary Stability of Implant in Sinuslift

Z. Nathanský, J. Holakovský

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 24-29

The authors deal with the possibilities to extend indications for the application of so called primary sinuslift. A titanium splint was developed, which brings about a substantial improvement of primary stability of implants in the sinuslift cavity and consequently a significant improvement in the results of these therapeutic procedures. The authors inform about the therapeutic procedure and their experience in the application of this method. The contribution is a part of the results of the Research Task IGA NK 6065-32000.

Fractures of Articular Process of Mandible (A Review of Literature)

P. Křížek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(1): 30-35

Injuries of facial skeleton occurred in each period of history but their mechanisms have been changing. What remains constant is the role of human factor. The mechanism of injuries of articular processes is mostly indirect. The fracture originates during the action of external force on the chin, the traumatizing strength in transferred through the mandible body and branches to articular process, which lean against the articular fossa with strengthened lateral margin protected also by the articular disk. If the deformation exceeds the limit of elasticity, the cervix breaks. The fracture may not necessarily be recognized and long-term even lifelong morphological...
