Late Equipment of Complex Odontoma
K. Ginzelová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 31-34
A complex odontoma in the apex of persisting tooth 73 in a 12-year female patient was the cause of dystopic localization and retention of tooth 33. This became obvious from comparison of radiographic pictures formed within the time period of five years. The patient was treated by surgery in general anesthesia.
Talon Cusp - Developmental Anomalies in the Shape of Tooth Crown and Its Relation to Tooth Eruption
P. Černochová, K. Kaňovská
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 35-41
Talon cusp, or the "talon-like small bump", is a rare anomaly in the shape of toothcrown, which affected frontal teeth in maxilla and mandible. There is a superfluous smallbump, most frequently on the oral surface of the tooth, which extends from the cement-enamel junction in direction to the incisor edge. The authors followed the occurrence and complications of this anomaly in patients treated by orthodontics. There were 698 patients under treatment, who were admitted to orthodontic treatment during 1998-2003. Talon cusp was noted in four patients prevalence was 0.57%. In three cases the permanent lateral incisor was affected, inone case it was the...
The Condition of Nutrition in Patients with Total Substitution
M. Bernardová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 42-53
The aim of the study was to examine the conditions of nutrition in 116 carriers of full denture formed in the occluder without objective stomatognathic registration. In order to evaluate nutritional conditions the author used a combination of results of a questionnaireabout nutritional customs (?), anthropometric measurement of BMI and laboratory determination of the level of albumin, minerals, oral examination of malnutrition symptoms and quantitativedetermination of mixed saliva. Malnutrition was demonstrated in 10 individuals of the examined substitution carriers at the age of 45-89 years. The were 7 cases of protein-energy malnutrition and three...
Analysis of the Interleukin-1 (IL-1) Gene Polymorphisms in Czech Patients with Chronic Periodontitis
L. Izakovičová Hollá, N. Dvořáková, T. Halaba, V. Znojil, J. Vácha, J. Vaněk
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 48-56
Interleukin-1 (IL-1), a significant inflammatory cytokine, is regarded as one of key factors participating in periodontitis disease pathogenesis. A number of recent studies haveinvestigated a role of polymorphisms in genes for IL-1α and IL-1β in periodontitis development, present findings, however, are not completely consistent. We studied variants in the genes for IL-1α (-889 C/T) and IL-1β (+3953 C/T) in the Czech population in 148 patients with chronicperiodontitis and 107 controls. Polymorphisms were detected by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR) method with a subsequent restriction analysis by enzymes Nco I (IL-1α)...

Introduction: Thiobarbituric acid reacting substances (TBARS) are products of lipoperoxidation. Lipoperoxidation damages various tissues by reactive oxygen intermediates(ROI) and thus TBARS are generally considered as markers of oxidation stress and lipidimpairment. Aim. The aim of this project was to find possible nexus between chosen characteristics of immune system, parodont status and TBARS concentrations in saliva in healthy volunteers. In addition, we tried to find the origin of TBARS in saliva in patients with parodontopathies, where we focused on entire or partially plasmatic TBARS passage to saliva hypothesis. Subjects & Methods. Our volunteers...
Orthodontic Therapy of Patients with Cleft Palate
M. Koťová, L. Vítová
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 71-76
The paper presents a brief survey of introducing orthodontia into the complex therapeutic protocol in interdisciplinary treatment of patients with cleft palate anomalies of orofacial system. It summarizes approaches and possibilities of orthodontic intervention indifferent periods of time including less frequent pre-surgical jaw-orthopedic preparation before primary surgical correction of the lip defect. The authors also present the reasons leading toindication of early orthodontic therapy with active or passive orthopedic device in the period of temporary dentition. Attention is drawn to the obstacles during pubertal growth spurt, whenan insufficient...
BAS-0 Implant for Substitution of Resected Alveolus of Maxilla
Z. Nathanský
Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(2): 77-81
The author draws attention to the possibilities to substitute the defect after resected alveolar processes of maxilla in a 19-year boy. The substitution of the defect was performed by means of a solid implant from the BAS-0 material as a part of the Research TaskIGA NK6065-3/2000. The substitution of a resected part of maxilla is a considerable therapeutic problem. Patients undergoing these kinds of interventions have been so far subsequently treated with post-resection prostheses (obturators). Such treatment brings about in some, especially young, patients the need to prepare these special prostheses repeatedly. In young patients, however, we makeevery...
