V. Merglová, H. Hecová, J. Stehlíková, P. Chaloupka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(3): 69-74

The objective of the study was to compare the findings obtained during investigation of women with physiological and risk pregnancy. The study enrolled 52 pregnant women at the age of 23 to 40 years. The cohort included 25 women with physiological and 27 women with risk pregnancy due to gestational and pregestational diabetes mellitus. In addition to anamnestic data we have always determined the DMF index, CPITN index (Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs) and PBI (Papilla Bleeding Index). Moreover, we have always determined the numbers of Streptoccous mutans bacteria in saliva and in the tooth plaque. The results obtained were statistically...

The Surface of Dental Implants and the Role in Interaction with Biological Environment

R. Vrbová, M. Sochor

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(3): 49-60

Dental implants are routinely used in modern dentistry to replace missing teeth. Commercial pure titanium or titanium alloys (e.g. Ti6Al4V) is the most frequently used material for their manufacturing. The screw type of cylindrical dental implant is the most available and the most used in dental implantology. Dental implants research is focusing on improving of tissue - implant surface contact, with a view to shorten wound healing and to ensure good quality of primary and secondary stability of dental implant. Important aspect is long-term functionality of implants without the need of reimplantations. In this paper there is basic overview of materials...

On the Problem of Disorders in the Formation of Hard Dental Tissues and Teeth Eruption

V. Merglová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(3): 35-38

The paper deals with the problem of hypoplastic and hypomineralization changes of tooth enamel in permanent teeth. Localized defects in hard of tissues of permanent teeth may originate on the basis of periapical dental tissues inflammatory lesions in primary predecessor or permanent teeth or by injury. Two cases of the sc. Turner teeth associated with premature teething in children at the age of 9 and 6 years are described.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a disease with typical dermal and mucosal manifestations. The etiology is multifactorial. The characteristic skin manifestation is the occurrence of brick-red stains or papular dermatitis with central decrease, sc. iris form. In the efflorescence center blebs are formed. The mucosa of oral cavity displays planar erosions which originate from ripping off the blebs by mastication movements. At the periodontology ward of Stomatology Clinic Medical Faculty MU and FNBUSA in Brno the authors examined a nineteen-year patients with hemorrhagic crusts on the lips and erosions with exudation and fibrin cover, which occurred...

What are Future Curing Lights Technology Trends?

P. Bradna, L. Comba, J. Froněk, D. Houšová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2010; 110(3): 61-68

Over the recent years, dental curing lights as well as light-cured materials have been undergoing rapid development, which makes choosing a curing light guaranteeing the optimal polymerization degree difficult. The paper summarizes critical characteristics of curing lights necessary for reliable polymerization of light-cured composite materials, glass-ionomer cements and adhesive systems with different types of photoinitiators. The effect of emission-spectrum width on the polymerization degree of composite material is documented with polymerization of two typical composite materials with different photoinitiators and light-cured using quartz-tungsten-halogen...
