Adhesive Adjustment of Enamel and Dentin by Er:YAG Laser

L. Roubalíková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 101-106

Preparation of hard dental tissues by Er:YAG laser represents an alternative of classical mechanical preparation. In view of the mechanism of removing dental tissues (microexplosion) the given way of preparation is suitable especially for adhesive materials. When using energy around 100 mJ/cm2 a system of unevenness develops in enamel and dentin, which may be used for mechanical retention of composite materials. The author informs about electronmicroscopic picture of enamel and dentin after irradiation by Er:YAG laser of the energy 105mJ/cm2. The appearance of enamel resembles the situation after etching with orthophosphoricacid - the prismatic structure...

Mucogingival Recession - Definition, Classification, Etiology

A. Dhaifullah, R. Slezák

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 107-112

Gingival recession is probably the most common non-inflammatory disease of the periodontium. The cause of gingival recession remains unclear yet. The review deals with its classification, possible causes and consequence.

Classification Systems of Impacted Lower Third Molars

V. Schwartzová, M. Kyseµ, J. Kaiferová, P. Kártik

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 113-118

The authors deal with the problem of a thorough preoperation examination of impacted lower third molars. They describe in more detail the classification systems of impactedlower third molars, which implicate the difficulty of extraction of impacted lower third molars. Factors, which can make the course of the extraction easier, but also more difficult, are presented. For the sake of a successful treatment and the favorable course the authors came to the conclusion by describing the importance of a detailed knowledge of the problems in case.

Gingival Changes after Immunosupresive Treatment

A. Fassmann, P. Augustín, J. Slapnička

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 131-134

There are emerging new problems associated with medication side effects with development of therapeutic modalities of current medical approaches. Some of these, such as Cyclosporin A (CsA), anticlonvulsants and calcium channel blockers are associated with gingival hyperplasia. We know the pharmacological mechanisms, clinical and histopathologic features, but the question about ethiopathogenesis remains still open. The mechanism of the gingival hyperplasia development is complicated and includes action of many cofactors, such as plaque, genetic predisposition, age and hormones.

CPITN Index in Fixed Prosthetic Dentures from Wiron and Aurix Alloys

S. Bartáková, J. Vaněk

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 135-139

The authors present the study of prosthetic treatment of shortened dental arch by means of fixed bridges made either from Wiron 99 metal-fused ceramic or Aurix alloy. At Stomatological Clinic in Brno, 74 cases of shortened dental arch were treated by fixed bridges within the period of 1998-2000. In the upper jaw, 39 bridges were made (17 metal-fused ceramic Wiron 99 alloy, 21 from Aurix). In the lower jaw, 35 bridges were made (14 mental-fused ceramic Wiron 99 alloy, 21 from Aurix). Six months after the treatment, mean values of CPITN a PBI indices were evaluated for each patient, separately for the upper and lower jaw. When Wiron 99 metal-fused ceramic...

Dental Erosison in Children

R. Ivančaková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 140-148

Epidemiological studies have shown that the prevalence of dental erosion inchildren varies between 2 and 57 %. Changes seen in dental erosion range from removal of surface characteristics to extensive loss of tooth tissue with pulp exposure. The etiology of dentalerosion is dependent on the presence of extrinsic or intrinsic acid in the oral cavity. Extrinsic sources of acids include frequent consumption of acidic foods and drinks, and acidic medications. Regurgitation of acidic content into the mouth, as occurs in gastroesophageal reflux, is the mostcommon source of intrinsic acid. A multitude of factors may modify the erosion process, such as saliva,...

Coating of Implants by Hydroxyapatite Modified with Zirconia

Z. Havlová, M. Seydlová, P. La Serna, T. Dostálová, M. Jelínek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 149-159

Dental implantology is the branch, which has started a rapid evolution over the last years from the theoretical-investigating point of view as well as in practical applications. All experts dealing with implantation are to extend indications for the application of the used materials and to reduce the whole process of therapy. Having evaluated the data from literature the authors clarify at the conclusion that coating of implants is an open method of choice and this conclusion is supported by looking for new technological procedures for the processing of bioceramics.

Our Experience with MR Imaging of Temporomandibular Joint

V. Peterová, R. Jirman, H. Fikáčková, J. Mazánek

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2004; 104(4): 160-167

The aim of this study was to summarize results of the investigation of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) by magnetic resonance (MR) in various types of its disorders. MR imaging visualizes the bone and soft tissue components of TMJ including the disc and dynamicinvestigation during a gradual mouth opening visualizes the inner movement of the disc indetail. Twenty six patients with TMJ disorders (i.e. 52 TMJ) were investigated in a dynamicstudy during the period 1996-2003. The group consisted of 24 women and 2 men between the ages of 18 and 67 (35.6 years of age on the average). All the patients were examined by means of 1.5 T MR. Pathological MR findings...
