Possible Evidence of and Undesirable Immune Reaction on Dental Materials by the Test of Lymphocyte Proliferation in Peripheral Blood

J. Bártová, J. Procházková, Z. Krátká, K. Benetková, Z. Venclíková, H. Kučerová

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 111-115

A manifestation of altered tolerance of dental metal materials is an immunereaction of the type of delayed hypersensitivity. For evidence of this reaction metal compounds are used in skin tests or in the in vitro test of lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood. The use of skin tests has however its limitations. The lymphocyte proliferation test can be however used for detection of the immune reaction to metals present in dental materials without restriction.

Supernumerary Teeth in the Premaxilla

P. Krejčí

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 116-124

In a group of 134 children, mean age 10.4 years, the author investigated the distribution of incidence, site and morphology of supernumerary teeth in the frontal portion of the upper jaw and their effect on the adjacent permanent incisors. 90% of the supernumeraryteeth were in the region of the middle incisors. Impaired eruption of the incisor was mostfrequently caused by the tuberculate type of supernumerary tooth.

Use of a Subepithelial Graft to Cover a Denuded Root Surface

M. Starosta

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 125-129

Various surgical procedures are used to cover a root. In the submitted case-record the author describes the use of a subepithelial graft. At present this method appears to be the most suitable one in this indication.

Preventive Analgetic Pharmacotherapy in Dentoalveolar Operations - Yes or No?

V. Moťka, D. Hanáková, V. Zbořil

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 131-136

The clinical study is focused on the problem of postoperative analgesia in dentoalveolar surgery. The group comprises 90 patients where surgical extraction of impacted third lower molars was performed. Based on subjective data of the patients the authors evaluate the analgetic effect of Aulin and Algifen and the intensity of subjective complaints of a controlgroup of patients who were not given any analgetics after operation. The results of the study are in favour of Aulin which not only effectively suppressed postoperative pain but proved useful also as prophylaxis of inflammatory complications for healing of the extraction wound.

Antioxidant Activity of Total Salivain Relation to the State of the Marginal Gingiva

J. Podhradský, S. Veselá, Ľ. Kuračka

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 137-139

In the total saliva of voluntary donors with a different index of bleeding time of the interdental papillae the authors assessed, on the basis of saliva the capacity to inhibit lipidperoxidation, its antioxidant activity. Between the groups with a higher and lower index of haemorrhagic diathesis the activity did not differ significantly. The same applies to the uricacid level, described as the main antioxidant of total saliva.

Oral Health in Schoolchildren in the District of Frýdek-Místek in 1997 and 1999, I. part. Caries experience and dental status

Z. Broukal, L. Ryšavá, L. Bártová, J. Dušková, L. Mrklas

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 140-145

The three year preventive intervention focused to the improvement of oral healthpreventive knowledge, behaviour and to the increase of intake of fluoridated salt and of other natural fluoride sources was conducted in the district of Frýdek-Místek in the North Moravian county of the Czech Republic. The intervention was composed of regular district-wide information spread by local journals, broadcast and TV and by lectures among school-children, their parents, pediatricians and dentists. Oral health status and urine fluoride content together with knowledge in fluoride prevention and eating habits related to fluoride intake were recorded in school-children...

Distraction of the Alveolus

M. Machálka, L. Procházková

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 146-149

In great number of cases, osteodistraction replaces transfer of bone implants when adjusting bone defects of the alveolus. This above method is more efficient than augmentation with nonresorbable materials. Though we did a limited number of vertical distractions of mandible bone defects by now, the bone volume acquired by this method on the spot of the defect made it possible to us either to integrate dental implants or to create a good denturebearing area after adjusting soft tissues.

Educe Biomechanical Analysis of Stress-distribution in Condyle of Temporomandibular Joint

R. Jirman

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2002; 102(4): 150-155

The authors presents to determine the magnitude of a stress distribution and a deformation around the head of the mandible and an articular disc. In the first part he briefly pays attention to the anatomy and the pathology of the temporomandibular joint. In the secondpart he describes a calculation by means of Finite Element Method (FEM).
